Detailed Itinerary

08:00 AM – Pickup from Hotel

Your day begins with a convenient pickup from your hotel or a pre-designated location in Delhi. A private, air-conditioned car and a professional driver will ensure a comfortable start to your sightseeing adventure. Sit back, relax, and enjoy the drive as your guide briefs you on the day’s itinerary. This personalized transfer allows you to travel at your own pace, avoiding the hassle of public transport or crowded cabs.

08:30 AM – Red Fort (Lal Qila)

Your first stop is the magnificent Red Fort, locally known as Lal Qila. This iconic UNESCO World Heritage Site is an enduring symbol of India’s rich Mughal heritage. As you enter through its massive gates, you’ll be greeted by sprawling courtyards, intricately carved walls, and grand halls that echo centuries of history. Take time to explore the Diwan-i-Aam (Hall of Public Audience) and Diwan-i-Khas (Hall of Private Audience), where emperors once addressed their subjects. The fort’s striking red sandstone architecture, adorned with decorative motifs and delicate marble inlays, makes it a photographer’s delight. Your guide will share fascinating stories about the fort’s construction, its role in India’s history, and its transformation over the centuries.

10:00 AM – Jama Masjid & Chandni Chowk

Next, visit the Jama Masjid, one of the largest and most revered mosques in India. Built by the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan, its grand courtyard, towering minarets, and intricate marble work showcase architectural brilliance. After exploring the mosque, stroll through the vibrant lanes of Chandni Chowk, a historic market full of life and color. Here, the sounds of street vendors and the aroma of traditional delicacies like parathas, jalebis, and kebabs fill the air. Take your time browsing shops selling textiles, jewelry, spices, and souvenirs, soaking in the energy of Old Delhi. Your guide can point out hidden gems and help you experience the local culture authentically.

12:00 PM – Raj Ghat

Your tour then moves to Raj Ghat, the solemn memorial dedicated to Mahatma Gandhi, the Father of the Nation. Surrounded by peaceful gardens and reflective pools, this black marble platform marks the site of Gandhi’s cremation. Spend a few moments paying respects and reflecting on his enduring legacy of nonviolence and truth. The serene environment offers a quiet contrast to the bustling streets of Delhi, allowing for a moment of contemplation amidst your busy day.

12:30 PM – Lunch Break

It’s time to refuel with a delicious lunch at a recommended restaurant. Enjoy traditional North Indian cuisine, including flavorful curries, fresh breads like naan or roti, and aromatic rice dishes. This break allows you to relax and recharge while experiencing the region’s culinary heritage. Please note that lunch costs are not included in the tour price.

01:30 PM – India Gate & Rashtrapati Bhavan

After lunch, drive through New Delhi’s impressive avenues to view its iconic landmarks. Stop at India Gate, a majestic war memorial honoring Indian soldiers, and admire its striking architecture. Continue to Rashtrapati Bhavan, the official residence of India’s President, and pass by the Parliament House, an important seat of Indian democracy. These stops offer excellent photo opportunities, showcasing New Delhi’s blend of historical significance and modern governance.

03:00 PM – Qutub Minar

Next, explore Qutub Minar, another UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of Delhi’s most celebrated monuments. This towering 73-meter minaret, built in the 12th century, is adorned with intricate carvings and inscriptions from the Quran. Walk through the surrounding complex, which includes ancient tombs and mosques, each reflecting the region’s rich architectural legacy. Your guide will provide insights into the minaret’s construction, historical context, and its significance as a symbol of India’s cultural heritage.

04:30 PM – Return to Hotel

This full day Delhi sightseeing tour was the perfect introduction to the city. We covered both Old and New Delhi in one day, starting with a rickshaw ride through the narrow lanes of Chandni Chowk and ending at the Lotus Temple as the sun was setting. Jama Masjid was stunning and our guide explained the Mughal history so well. We also stopped for street food, the paranthas at Paranthe Wali Gali were absolutley delicious. Highly reccomend this tour for first time visitors.

Covered so much of Delhi in just one day. Highlights were the Red Fort, Humayun's Tomb and the Qutub Minar. Our guide was extremely knowledgable about the different eras of Delhi's history from the Mughals to the British Raj. The rickshaw ride through Old Delhi's spice market was an incredible sensory experience, the smells were amazing. We also drove past India Gate and Parliament House in New Delhi which was a nice contrast to the old city. Great value for a full day tour.

Good sightseeing tour of Delhi covering the main attractions. The guide was friendly and spoke clear English. We visited Qutub Minar, India Gate, Humayun's Tomb and Red Fort among other sites. The traffic in Delhi is quite intense so we spent a fair amount of time in the car between locations. Would suggest starting earlier in the morning to beat the crowds and the heat. The street food tasting in Old Delhi was a fun addition to the tour.

Absolutley fantastic day exploring Delhi with our guide. The contrast between the chaotic lanes of Old Delhi and the wide boulevards of Lutyens' New Delhi was facinating. Our guide took us inside Jama Masjid and explained the architecture beautifully. The visit to Gurudwara Bangla Sahib was a spiritual highlight, we even helped serve food in the community kitchen. The driver navigated Delhi traffic like a pro. One of the best city tours I have done anywhere in the world.

We had just one day in Delhi before flying out and this sightseeing tour made the most of every minute. Started at Raj Ghat where Mahatma Gandhi was cremated, then explored the Red Fort complex. After lunch we headed to New Delhi for India Gate, Rashtrapati Bhavan and the beautiful Lotus Temple. Our guide shared stories about Delhi's 7 historic cities that made the whole experience come alive. The AC car was comfortable and the driver was excellent.

Frequently Asked Questions

The full-day Delhi sightseeing tour covers 8–10 major monuments across both Old Delhi and New Delhi: Old Delhi — Red Fort (UNESCO, Mughal fortress), Jama Masjid (India's largest mosque, built 1656), Chandni Chowk (17th-century bazaar with cycle-rickshaw ride), and Raj Ghat (Mahatma Gandhi memorial). New Delhi — India Gate (war memorial), Rashtrapati Bhavan/Parliament House (drive-past), Humayun's Tomb (UNESCO, 1570 precursor to the Taj Mahal), Qutub Minar (UNESCO, 73-metre 12th-century minaret), and Lotus Temple (Bahá'í House of Worship). The tour provides a comprehensive sweep of Delhi's 3,000+ year history from the medieval Delhi Sultanate through the Mughal Empire to British-era New Delhi and modern India.
This is a full-day tour running approximately 9–10 hours from hotel pickup to hotel drop-off. Typical timings are 8:30–9:00 AM pickup and 6:00–7:00 PM return. The full day is necessary to properly cover both Old Delhi and New Delhi, which are geographically separated and each contain multiple major sites. A sit-down lunch break (approximately 1 hour) is included midday. If you have limited time, we also offer a Delhi half-day sightseeing tour covering 4–5 highlights in approximately 4–5 hours. The full-day tour is strongly recommended for first-time visitors who want a comprehensive Delhi experience.
A private air-conditioned vehicle is provided for the entire day — typically a Toyota Innova Crysta (6-seat SUV) for groups of 3–5, or a sedan (Swift Dzire/Honda Amaze) for couples and solo travellers. The vehicle remains exclusively with your group throughout the day, serving as a cool, comfortable base between monument visits. Delhi's distances between major sites are significant — Qutub Minar to Red Fort is 18 km, and navigating Delhi's traffic independently is challenging. The driver knows all monument parking areas, one-way restrictions, and traffic patterns. For a luxury vehicle upgrade (Mercedes, BMW, or Audi), see the Explore Delhi luxury car tour.
Yes — a Ministry of Tourism-licensed professional guide accompanies you throughout the entire day. Delhi's complex layered history — 8 successive cities built on the same site, ruled by Turko-Afghan sultans, Mughals, the British Empire, and the Indian republic — requires expert narration to fully appreciate. Your guide provides the chronological thread connecting each site: how Humayun's Tomb (1570) directly inspired the Taj Mahal (1632), why the British moved the capital from Calcutta to Delhi in 1911, and how Shah Jahan's Red Fort became the symbol of Indian independence. Guides are available in English, Hindi, French, German, Spanish, Japanese, and other languages on request.
Yes — all monument entry tickets are included in the tour price: Red Fort (₹35 Indian / ₹500 foreign), Humayun's Tomb (₹35/₹550), Qutub Minar (₹35/₹550), Jama Masjid (free entry, ₹300 camera fee included), and Lotus Temple (free entry). The total ticket value for foreign nationals is approximately ₹1,900–₹2,100. All tickets are pre-purchased by your guide, so you skip the ticket queues at every monument — a significant time-saver, especially at popular sites like Humayun's Tomb and Qutub Minar where queues can exceed 20–30 minutes during peak season. India Gate and Raj Ghat are free to visit.
Yes — the tour comprehensively covers both Old Delhi and New Delhi, which are historically and geographically distinct parts of the city. Old Delhi (Shahjahanabad) — founded in 1638 by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan — is a dense, vibrant, sensory-rich experience of narrow lanes, bazaars, mosques, and the Red Fort. New Delhi — designed by British architects Edwin Lutyens and Herbert Baker in the 1910s–1930s — is a spacious, tree-lined city of grand colonial boulevards, government buildings, and pre-Mughal monuments (Humayun's Tomb, Qutub Minar). The contrast between the two Delhis is extraordinary and forms one of the most fascinating aspects of the tour. Most tours begin in Old Delhi (morning energy) and move to New Delhi in the afternoon.
The Delhi same-day sightseeing tour is specifically designed for first-time India visitors and is the most popular Delhi tour for international travellers. Delhi can be overwhelming to navigate independently — the traffic, the distances between sites, the complexity of monument ticketing, and the intensity of Old Delhi's bazaars. A private guide and vehicle create a comfortable, managed framework that allows you to absorb and enjoy the city. Your guide provides cultural context, photography tips, and practical advice throughout the day. By evening, first-time visitors typically feel significantly more comfortable and confident about their India journey. For a detailed planning guide, see our Delhi travel guide 2026.
Yes — complimentary pickup and drop-off at your Delhi hotel, guesthouse, or Airbnb is included. The driver arrives at your accommodation at 8:30–9:00 AM with a name board displaying your name. Pickup is available from anywhere within Delhi NCR, including central Delhi (Connaught Place, Paharganj, Karol Bagh), south Delhi (Hauz Khas, Saket, Greater Kailash), and the airport area (Aerocity, Mahipalpur). Pickup from Gurgaon and Noida is also available with a small surcharge (₹300–₹500). If you're arriving at Delhi airport on a morning flight, airport pickup can be arranged — confirm your flight details at booking.
Yes — a sit-down lunch at a quality Delhi restaurant is included, typically served between the Old Delhi and New Delhi portions of the tour (around 1:00–2:00 PM). The restaurant serves authentic North Indian and Mughlai cuisine — butter chicken, dal makhani, biryani, kebabs, fresh tandoori naan — with comprehensive vegetarian, vegan, Jain, halal, and allergen-aware options. Delhi is one of India's great food cities, and the lunch is a culinary highlight rather than a generic tourist meal. For travellers with specific food interests, your guide can recommend Old Delhi street food stops (Karim's, Paranthe Wali Gali) as additions to the standard lunch.
Yes — the tour is excellent for families and suitable for children aged 5 and above. Highlights that particularly engage children include the cycle-rickshaw ride through Chandni Chowk (exciting and fun), the grand scale of the Red Fort (kids love exploring the ramparts), India Gate (open lawns for a brief run-around), and the futuristic Lotus Temple (the petal-shaped architecture fascinates children). The private vehicle allows for flexible breaks — ice cream stops, restroom breaks, and energy recharges as needed. Children under 15 receive free entry at most Indian monuments. The guide adjusts commentary for families, using stories and legends that captivate younger visitors. For other family-friendly Delhi options, see things to do in Delhi.
October to March is the ideal season for Delhi sightseeing: cool, clear days with temperatures of 15–28°C, comfortable for extensive outdoor walking at monuments. November and February are particularly pleasant. December–January can bring morning fog, which creates atmospheric photography conditions at Humayun's Tomb and Qutub Minar. April–June is hot (35–46°C) but manageable with early starts (7:00 AM pickup) and the air-conditioned vehicle providing relief between sites. July–September (monsoon) brings rain and humidity but also dramatic skies and lush green gardens — monuments are less crowded. The tour operates year-round; guides adjust the itinerary sequence to manage heat and weather conditions.
Yes, Delhi is generally safe for tourists, especially in popular tourist areas like Connaught Place, Chandni Chowk, and around major monuments. Booking a licensed local guide through AsiaByLocals adds an extra layer of safety and local knowledge.
The Delhi Metro is the fastest and most affordable way to travel between attractions. For tour experiences, our guides arrange private air-conditioned vehicles so you can cover Old Delhi and New Delhi comfortably in one day.
For popular sites like Qutub Minar, Humayun's Tomb, and Red Fort, advance tickets are recommended to skip long queues. When you book a guided tour through AsiaByLocals, entry tickets and skip-the-line access are typically included.
