Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Departure from Delhi and Journey to Agra

Your exciting Golden Triangle adventure begins with a prompt 7:30 AM pickup from your hotel in Delhi in a comfortable sedan AC car. As you leave the bustling city behind, you’ll be driven along the Yamuna Expressway, one of India’s most modern highways. This 3.5-hour drive offers scenic views of the lush countryside, farmland, and the changing landscape that signals your entrance into India’s heartland.

Your first stop is the iconic India Gate, a majestic war memorial that honors Indian soldiers who sacrificed their lives in World War I. Take your time to admire its grand architecture and soak in the patriotic atmosphere. From here, you’ll head to Humayun’s Tomb, a UNESCO World Heritage site that holds immense cultural and historical significance. This beautifully preserved Mughal mausoleum, with its symmetrical gardens and intricate red sandstone design, is often regarded as a precursor to the Taj Mahal.

Next, you will explore Jama Masjid, one of the largest mosques in India, located in the vibrant old city of Delhi. Here, you’ll experience the spiritual and architectural grandeur of Mughal-era Delhi. Afterward, stroll through the bustling lanes of Chandni Chowk, where you can witness the real pulse of local life with its colorful markets, street vendors, and aromatic spices filling the air.

Around midday, you’ll stop for lunch at a local restaurant renowned for its authentic Mughlai cuisine. This is your chance to savor rich, flavorful dishes like butter chicken, kebabs, and fragrant biryanis, all prepared with traditional spices and cooking methods passed down through generations.

After lunch, continue your journey to Agra. Upon arrival, you’ll check in at your hotel and rest overnight, preparing for the next day’s early start. The day finishes with a quiet evening in Agra, giving you time to reflect on the rich history and culture you’ve already experienced.

Day 2: Sunrise at the Taj Mahal and Exploration of Agra Fort

Wake up early to witness the breathtaking sunrise at the Taj Mahal, often described as the world’s most exquisite symbol of love. Seeing the ivory-white marble monument bathed in the soft morning light is a magical experience you’ll cherish forever. Your skip-the-line entry ensures you avoid crowds, giving you an intimate moment to absorb the Taj Mahal’s intricate beauty and tranquil gardens.

After this memorable start, your next stop is the formidable Agra Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage site that once served as the main residence of the Mughal emperors. Walk through its massive walls and explore grand palaces, audience halls, and mosques within this red sandstone fortress. Your guide will share fascinating stories about the Mughal dynasty’s power, artistry, and legacy.

Post-Agra Fort visit, you’ll begin your drive to Jaipur, the capital of Rajasthan, known as the Pink City. The journey offers a chance to relax and enjoy the changing scenery as you move from the plains of Uttar Pradesh into Rajasthan’s arid yet colorful landscape.

Practical Tips and What to Wear

For this tour, wear comfortable shoes suitable for walking on uneven surfaces and cobblestones, especially around historical sites. Carry sunscreen and a hat or sunglasses to protect yourself from the strong Indian sun during daytime excursions. Light, breathable clothing is recommended, but keep a shawl or scarf handy if you plan to enter religious places where modesty is appreciated.

This 3 day Golden Triangle tour was the highlight of our 2 week India trip. Day 1 Delhi (Red Fort, Humayuns Tomb, Qutub Minar), Day 2 Agra (Taj Mahal sunrise, Agra Fort), Day 3 Jaipur (Amber Fort, City Palace, Hawa Mahal). Every day had a different guide who was an expert on their city. The logistics were flawless, hotels were good, and the driver was like a ninja navigating Indian traffic. Cannot recommend enough.

Perfekt for first time India visitors. The tour takes all the stress out of planning. Each city had its own specialised guide which meant we got real expertise not just surface level stuff. Taj Mahal at sunrise was obviously the peak moment but honestly every day had jaw dropping moments. Amber Fort in Jaipur was a close second. Hotels were clean and comfortable. The driver was with us all 3 days and became like a friend.

Really well organized tour covering the 3 main tourist cities. Each day was packed but not exhausting. The pacing was good with breaks for lunch and chai. My only feedback is that Delhi felt a bit rushed, we only had half a day there. If possible I would add an extra day in Delhi. Agra and Jaipur were perfect tho. The guides were all great, especially the one in Agra who made the Taj Mahal story so emotional.

My wife and I booked this for our first trip to India and it was the best decision. Having everything organized (transport, guides, hotels, entry tickets) meant we could just enjoy the experience without stressing. The Taj Mahal made my wife cry it was so beautiful. Jaipur was our favourite city, so colorful and alive. The driver was excellent and made the long drives between cities very comfortable.

Tres bien overall. 3 cities in 3 days is ambitious but they make it work. Delhi has so much Mughal history, Agra has the Taj (magnifique!), and Jaipur has the Rajput palaces and forts. Different eras of Indian history back to back which is really educational. Hotels were decent 3 star, nothing fancy but clean and well located. Would have liked 4 star options for a bit more comfort. But guides and transport were excellent.

Frequently Asked Questions

The Golden Triangle covers India's three most visited historical cities in a connected loop: Delhi — the capital, home to Mughal and British Raj monuments, Old Delhi's 17th-century bazaars, and three UNESCO World Heritage Sites (Red Fort, Humayun's Tomb, Qutub Minar); Agra — home of the Taj Mahal (one of the world's most iconic monuments), Agra Fort (second UNESCO site), and the Baby Taj; Jaipur — the 'Pink City' of Rajasthan, home to Amber Fort (third UNESCO site), City Palace, Hawa Mahal, Jantar Mantar, and the crafts and textile culture of Rajasthan. The three cities form a triangle approximately 200 km apart, making a 3–5 day circuit logical and highly efficient.
This Golden Triangle tour runs over 4 days / 3 nights — the most balanced version of the circuit that avoids the excessive rushing of the 3-day version while not extending to the full 5 or 6 days. Day 1: Delhi (full day). Day 2: Drive to Agra (3.5 hours), afternoon/evening in Agra, overnight. Day 3: Taj Mahal sunrise, full Agra sightseeing, drive to Jaipur (5 hours via Fatehpur Sikri). Day 4: Full Jaipur day. Return to Delhi on Day 4 evening (5 hours) or fly from Jaipur. The 4-day format allows one full sightseeing day in each city plus travel days, with the Agra overnight enabling the essential sunrise Taj Mahal visit.
Included: all intercity and local transportation in a private air-conditioned vehicle, Ministry of Tourism-licensed guides in Delhi, Agra, and Jaipur, 3 nights hotel accommodation (1 Delhi, 1 Agra, 1 Jaipur — hotel standard specified at booking), all monument entry tickets across all three cities (Red Fort, Humayun's Tomb, Qutub Minar, Taj Mahal + inner mausoleum, Agra Fort, Amber Fort, City Palace, Jantar Mantar), and daily breakfasts. Lunches and dinners are not included in the standard package but can be added. All tours are 100% private — no shared groups.
A Golden Triangle tour package consistently offers better value than independent booking for most travellers: the guide fees, vehicle hire, entry ticket management, hotel coordination, and route planning are all handled for you. For first-time India visitors specifically, the logistical complexity of independently organizing 3 cities, multiple monuments, and intercity transport across 4 days in India is significant. Tour packages also provide a single point of contact for any issue that arises. Independent booking can be marginally cheaper for experienced India travellers who are comfortable managing logistics, but for most, the convenience, quality, and time-saving justify the package price.
Yes — Fatehpur Sikri is typically included as a stop on the Agra-to-Jaipur drive (Day 3). The UNESCO-listed abandoned Mughal city is exactly on the route between Agra and Jaipur (40 km from Agra, en route to the Jaipur highway). The visit takes approximately 1.5–2 hours with a guide. Akbar's complete 16th-century imperial capital — abandoned mysteriously just 14 years after construction — includes the Jama Masjid with the grand Buland Darwaza (the largest mosque gateway in the world), the Panch Mahal (a 5-storey palace tower), and Jodha Bai's Palace. Entry is included in the tour price.
October to March is the ideal season, with October–November and February–March being the most pleasant (mild temperatures, clear skies, minimal dust). December–January is peak tourist season with the most comfortable daytime temperatures (18–28°C) but can bring morning fog in Delhi and Agra. April–June is increasingly hot (38–46°C) — feasible but demanding; start sightseeing early. July–September (monsoon): green, humid, and occasionally dramatic — Taj Mahal in monsoon light is extraordinary for photographers; outdoor sightseeing can be disrupted by heavy rain. The Golden Triangle can be done year-round; October–March simply offers the most comfortable conditions.
Yes — Ranthambore National Park (Bengal tiger safari) is located between Agra and Jaipur (approximately 180 km from Agra, 160 km from Jaipur) and is the most popular Golden Triangle extension. Adding 2 nights at Ranthambore extends the tour to a 6-day circuit: Delhi → Agra → Ranthambore (2 nights, tiger safaris morning and afternoon) → Jaipur → Delhi. Ranthambore has one of India's highest tiger sighting rates — mornings in a private open Gypsy jeep with a naturalist guide offer extraordinary wildlife experiences. See our Ranthambore full-day tour for details.
All intercity travel on this tour is in a private air-conditioned vehicle — the same vehicle and driver for the entire circuit. Delhi to Agra: 3–3.5 hours via Yamuna Expressway. Agra to Jaipur: 4.5–5 hours via NH21 (passing Fatehpur Sikri). Jaipur to Delhi: 5 hours via NH48 (National Highway). Total driving across the circuit: approximately 12–13 hours over 4 days. All highway tolls and monument parking fees are included. The vehicle is your private mobile base throughout — the driver manages navigation and parking while the guide manages sightseeing.
Yes — the Golden Triangle is one of India's most senior-friendly itineraries because: (1) it uses private vehicles door-to-door; (2) major monuments (Taj Mahal, Amber Fort) have golf buggy services for mobility-impaired visitors; (3) 4-star hotels are standard, with good amenities; (4) 4 days provides a comfortable pace — not rushed. The main challenges for senior travellers are heat (April–October: start sightseeing before 9 AM) and uneven cobblestone surfaces at some monuments. The guide always knows the most accessible routes through each monument and arranges buggy service when relevant. Inform us of any mobility requirements when booking.
A 3-day Golden Triangle is feasible but demanding — it covers all headline monuments across Delhi, Agra, and Jaipur at a fast pace with significant daily driving. Here is a realistic assessment: Day 1 — Delhi: a compressed half-day covering Humayun's Tomb, Qutub Minar, India Gate, and a brief Old Delhi drive-through (no time for a full Chandni Chowk rickshaw ride or Red Fort interior). Day 2 — Agra: early morning departure from Delhi (5:30 AM), Taj Mahal and Agra Fort, then a 5-hour drive to Jaipur via a brief Fatehpur Sikri stop. Day 3 — Jaipur: Amber Fort, City Palace, and Hawa Mahal, then 5-hour return drive to Delhi. The honest verdict: 3 days covers the must-see monuments but leaves no time for cultural immersion — no Old Delhi food walks, no Jaipur bazaar browsing, no Agra sunset at Mehtab Bagh, and no breathing room. 4 days is the minimum recommended duration for a satisfying experience, and 5–6 days is ideal for genuine immersion. If you only have 3 days available, prioritise Agra (Taj Mahal) and one other city rather than rushing all three. For a detailed Delhi-only itinerary option, see our Delhi 1-day itinerary guide.
Yes, Delhi is generally safe for tourists, especially in popular tourist areas like Connaught Place, Chandni Chowk, and around major monuments. Booking a licensed local guide through AsiaByLocals adds an extra layer of safety and local knowledge.
The Delhi Metro is the fastest and most affordable way to travel between attractions. For tour experiences, our guides arrange private air-conditioned vehicles so you can cover Old Delhi and New Delhi comfortably in one day.
For popular sites like Qutub Minar, Humayun's Tomb, and Red Fort, advance tickets are recommended to skip long queues. When you book a guided tour through AsiaByLocals, entry tickets and skip-the-line access are typically included.
Amber Fort is located 11 km from Jaipur city center, about a 20-minute drive. When you book a guided tour through AsiaByLocals, round-trip transportation from your hotel is included. You can also take an elephant or jeep ride up to the fort entrance.
Modest clothing that covers shoulders and knees is recommended for temple visits. Comfortable walking shoes are essential as forts like Amber Fort and Nahargarh Fort involve significant walking on stone pathways. Carry sunscreen and water, especially during summer months.
Yes, all three can be covered in a full-day guided tour. Our Jaipur city tours are designed to cover these major attractions efficiently with an experienced local guide who knows the best routes and timing to avoid crowds.
