The super fast express train tour to the Taj Mahal was fantastic. We were picked up from our hotel in Delhi and driven to the station. The express train to Agra was really comfortable with AC and plenty of legroom. Arrived in Agra in about 2 hours and our guide was waiting at the station. The Taj Mahal was absolutley breathtaking, even more beautiful than I imagined. We also had time for Agra Fort and a nice lunch before catching the train back. Arrived in Delhi by 8pm. Perfect day trip.

Chose the express train option over driving to Agra and I am so glad I did. The train was fast, clean and on time. In Agra our guide was waiting with a driver and we went straight to the Taj Mahal. The guide was incredibly passionate about the history and took us to the best photo spots that most tourists miss. We visited Agra Fort as well which has amazing views of the Taj from across the river. The whole day was perfectly coordinated from pickup to drop off.

Good same day Taj Mahal tour by express train. The train experience itself was interesting and much faster than driving on the highway. Our Agra guide was excellent and very knowledgable about Mughal architecture. The Taj Mahal did not disappoint, it is truly one of the wonders of the world. Only reason for 4 stars is the lunch was average and the train back was delayed by about 30 minutes. But overall definately reccomend the train over a car journey for this day trip.

Brilliant day trip from Delhi to the Taj Mahal by super fast express train. We departed from Hazrat Nizamuddin station early morning and arrived in Agra quickly. The guide met us and took us to the Taj Mahal through the east gate avoiding the main queue. The white marble in the morning sun was stunning. Spent about 2.5 hours at the Taj then visited Agra Fort and had lunch. The return train journey gave us time to rest after a full day. Seamless experience from start to finish.

Taking the express train from Delhi to see the Taj Mahal was one of the best decisions of our India trip. The train was punctual and comfortable, much less stressful than a long car ride. Our guide in Agra was phenomenal, he explained every detail of the Taj's construction including the semi precious stone inlay work. We also visited the Baby Taj (Itimad ud Daulah) which was small but exquisite. Everything was well organized and we felt taken care of the entire day. Would absolutley do this again.

Frequently Asked Questions

This tour uses the Gatimaan Express (trains 12049/12050) — India's fastest train operating at up to 160 km/h. The Gatimaan Express departs Hazrat Nizamuddin station (Delhi) at 8:10 AM and arrives at Agra Cantonment at 9:50 AM — just 1 hour 40 minutes. The return departs Agra at 8:05 PM arriving Delhi at 9:45 PM. An alternative is the Shatabdi Express (train 12001/12002), which departs New Delhi station at 6:00 AM and arrives Agra Cantonment at 8:40 AM — slightly slower (2h40m) but with an earlier arrival time, making it better for sunrise Taj Mahal visits. The tour specifies which train is used based on your timing preference.
Gatimaan Express option: Arrives Agra 9:50 AM, departs 8:05 PM — approximately 10 hours in Agra. This is ample time for the Taj Mahal, Agra Fort, lunch, and optional additional sites (Mehtab Bagh, Itmad-ud-Daula). Shatabdi Express option: Arrives Agra 8:40 AM, departs approximately 6:30 PM — approximately 10 hours also but with an earlier start allowing a better Taj Mahal morning experience. Both options provide more time in Agra than a car-based same-day trip (which typically allows 5–7 hours in Agra due to 3.5 hours each way driving).
Yes — round-trip train tickets are included in the tour price. For the Gatimaan Express, tickets are in Executive Chair Car (EC) class (premium, with in-seat meals service) or AC Chair Car (CC) (comfortable, air-conditioned, reserved seating). For the Shatabdi Express, tickets are in Executive Chair Car (the only class available on Shatabdi). EC class on both trains includes complimentary breakfast (morning journey) and snacks (return journey) served at your seat. The guide pre-purchases tickets before your travel date so boarding is seamless.
Yes — a Ministry of Tourism-licensed guide meets you at Agra Cantonment station upon your train's arrival and accompanies you for all Agra sightseeing. An AC vehicle (private car) is also pre-arranged at Agra station for transit between the station, Taj Mahal, Agra Fort, restaurant, and other sites. The guide manages all entry ticketing and logistics in Agra so you can step off the train and immediately begin sightseeing without any organization required. All entry tickets for the Taj Mahal (including inner mausoleum) and Agra Fort are included.
Gatimaan Express (12049): India's fastest train (160 km/h), departs Delhi Hazrat Nizamuddin 8:10 AM, arrives Agra 9:50 AM (1h40m). More modern rolling stock. In-seat breakfast included. Shatabdi Express (12001): Established premium service, departs New Delhi 6:00 AM, arrives Agra 8:40 AM (2h40m). Earlier arrival — significantly better for a morning Taj Mahal experience. Also includes in-seat breakfast. Best choice for Taj Mahal: Shatabdi (earlier arrival, morning Taj Mahal in better light). Best experience for the train journey itself: Gatimaan (faster, newer). Your tour operator selects the optimal train based on your timing priorities.
Essential: Your passport or national ID (required for ticket verification at Indian Railway stations and Taj Mahal entry), a light day bag, and your phone with the tour confirmation. Recommended: A change of clothes if you plan to visit a 5-star hotel restaurant in Agra, a small amount of Indian rupees for personal expenses (approximately ₹500–1,000), and a camera. Not required: Large luggage (leave at your Delhi hotel), food (breakfast and snacks are served in the train), or a separate travel guide (your Agra guide handles everything). The train journey is smooth and comfortable — no pre-journey stress.
Yes — the express train tour is an excellent choice for families with children. The train journey is an exciting experience for children (especially the Gatimaan Express at 160 km/h), and EC class seats are spacious enough for families with young children. The Agra sightseeing with a private guide and dedicated vehicle is more manageable than public transport or group tours for families. A private car in Agra (rather than walking between sites) allows quick breaks if children need rest. The Taj Mahal is genuinely fascinating for children of all ages — the guide can tailor the narrative with appropriate engagement for younger visitors.
Your tour includes a private vehicle pickup from your Delhi hotel to Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station (NZM). The driver typically picks you up approximately 90 minutes before the 8:10 AM Gatimaan departure (so ~6:40 AM pickup). Station travel time from central Delhi hotels is 20–30 minutes. Your driver navigates directly to the station, assists with luggage, and helps you locate your platform and coach number. Hazrat Nizamuddin is a large station — arriving with your guide or driver ensures you find the correct coach without confusion.
Indian Railways' premium trains (Gatimaan Express and Shatabdi Express) have a punctuality rate above 90%, and significant delays are uncommon. However, if a delay occurs, here is how the tour handles it: (1) Minor delay (15–30 minutes) — the Agra guide and vehicle wait at Agra Cantonment station; the itinerary is slightly compressed but all major sites are still covered; (2) Major delay (1–2 hours) — the guide adjusts the sightseeing sequence, prioritising the Taj Mahal and reducing time at secondary sites; lunch timing is shifted accordingly; (3) Cancellation or extreme delay — the tour operator arranges an alternative private vehicle transfer from Delhi to Agra (3.5 hours) so your Agra day proceeds by road; full train ticket refund is processed through Indian Railways. Your tour coordinator monitors train status from 5:00 AM on the travel day and contacts you immediately if any disruption is detected. For more on planning your Delhi day, see our Delhi 1-day itinerary guide.
Yes — luggage management is straightforward on this tour. At your Delhi hotel: leave large luggage at the hotel reception (all Delhi hotels provide free luggage storage for guests, even after checkout). Carry only a small day bag with essentials — passport, phone, camera, a light jacket, and sunscreen. On the train: Executive Chair Car has overhead luggage racks and under-seat storage sufficient for a day bag or small carry-on. In Agra: your private vehicle serves as a mobile luggage store — any bags travel in the vehicle boot while you sightsee at each monument. At Agra station (return): if you have a small bag, your guide assists with platform navigation and boarding. There are also cloak rooms at Agra Cantonment station (₹20–30 per item) if you need formal luggage storage, though this is rarely necessary for a day trip. For a comprehensive overview of planning your trip, see our things to do in Delhi page.
Yes, the Taj Mahal is closed every Friday for religious reasons. Please ensure your tour date for the Taj Mahal does not fall on a Friday.
Yes, foreign tourists must show their original passport or a high-quality digital photo at the entrance gates for security identification and monument entry.
Sunrise is the best time to visit the Taj Mahal. The gates open at 6:00 AM and the soft morning light creates the most stunning views. Arrive by 5:30 AM to beat the crowds and get the best photography conditions.
Yes, Delhi is generally safe for tourists, especially in popular tourist areas like Connaught Place, Chandni Chowk, and around major monuments. Booking a licensed local guide through AsiaByLocals adds an extra layer of safety and local knowledge.
The Delhi Metro is the fastest and most affordable way to travel between attractions. For tour experiences, our guides arrange private air-conditioned vehicles so you can cover Old Delhi and New Delhi comfortably in one day.
For popular sites like Qutub Minar, Humayun's Tomb, and Red Fort, advance tickets are recommended to skip long queues. When you book a guided tour through AsiaByLocals, entry tickets and skip-the-line access are typically included.
