What you see
Amer Fort, from 1592, above Maota Lake — the Sheesh Mahal mirror chamber, the painted Ganesh Pol gateway, and the Sukh Niwas cooled by water channels cut through marble. This deserves two to three hours and gets them.
City Palace, still partly lived in by the royal family, with the two sterling silver urns in the Diwan-i-Khas that remain the largest single silver objects ever made.
Jantar Mantar, the eighteenth-century observatory whose 27-metre sundial is still accurate to two seconds.
Hawa Mahal, the five-storey facade with 953 windows — and going inside, which most visitors do not, for the view out through them.
