Jaipur: Hidden Temples & Stepwells Private Tour by AC Car

Three places in Jaipur that the standard circuit skips.

Galtaji, the monkey temple, sits in a gorge in the hills east of the city. Natural springs feed a series of sacred tanks cut into the rock, pilgrims bathe in them, and several hundred macaques live around the complex. It is eighteenth-century, pink sandstone, and looks like nothing else in Jaipur — the setting does most of the work.

Panna Meena ka Kund, below Amer, is a sixteenth-century stepwell eight storeys deep with criss-crossing symmetrical staircases on all four sides. It is the best-composed structure in the city and there is usually nobody there. The steps are closed to walking now, so it is a photograph rather than a climb.

The old city lanes fill the rest: block printers, lac bangle makers working resin over a flame in doorway-width shops, and the bazaars behind the main streets where the trade actually happens.
