Jaipur from a thousand feet, at first light.

Ballooning here is done at sunrise for the same reason it is done at sunrise everywhere: the air is stable, the thermals have not started, and the light is the best of the day. What makes Jaipur unusual is what is underneath you — Amer Fort on its ridge, Jaigarh above it, the Aravalli hills running away north, and the villages and fields between them.

Flights typically run about an hour in the air, with the whole experience taking around four hours including the drive out, the inflation, the flight and the return.

How it runs

Complimentary pick-up from anywhere in Jaipur, well before dawn. Light refreshments at the launch site while the envelope is inflated, which is worth watching in itself. Then the flight, tracking wherever the wind takes you — no balloon flies a fixed route. The chase vehicle follows and collects you wherever you land.
