Jaipur: Instagram Tour of The Top Photography Spots w/ Guide

Jaipur photographs better than almost anywhere in India, and most visitors still leave with the same four phone shots. This tour reorders the day around where the light is good and where the crowds are not.

The frames

Patrika Gate — every arch, pillar and ceiling painted, each bay a different colour. This is where a large share of Jaipur's Instagram comes from, and at 7am you have it to yourself.

Panna Meena ka Kund, the sixteenth-century stepwell below Amer, with criss-crossing symmetrical staircases descending on all four sides. The best-composed frame in the city and usually empty.

Amer Fort — the Ganesh Pol gateway, the Sheesh Mahal mirror chamber, and the ramparts running up the ridge.

Hawa Mahal from the rooftop café across the road, which is the only place the whole facade fits in one shot.

Nahargarh at sunset, with the whole of Jaipur spread out below and the sandstone going properly pink.

And the old city lanes — block printers, lac bangle makers, the bazaars — which is where the photographs of Jaipur rather than of monuments come from.
