Amer or the city, or both, with lunch handled.
Four options here split the day sensibly: Amber Fort alone as a half day, the City Palace cluster as a half day, or the full circuit. Lunch at a multi-cuisine restaurant is included on the fuller versions, which after three hours on Amer's stone matters.
Amber Fort
Begun 1592 above Maota Lake. The Sheesh Mahal, the mirror palace where a single candle multiplies across thousands of convex tiles — the story being that the queen could not sleep outdoors, so a ceiling of stars was built for her indoors. The painted Ganesh Pol. The Sukh Niwas, cooled by water running through channels cut in the marble.
The walled city
City Palace, still partly the royal residence, with the Mubarak Mahal textile collection and the two sterling silver urns in the Diwan-i-Khas. Jantar Mantar, nineteen stone instruments that still work. Hawa Mahal, the 953-window facade built so royal women could watch the street unseen.
