Jaipur: Private Full Day City Tour with Female Tour Guide

Most guiding in Rajasthan is done by men. Plenty of travellers — solo women, mothers with daughters, older couples — would simply rather spend nine hours with a woman, and until recently there was no straightforward way to ask for that. This tour makes it the default rather than a favour.

The guides working on it are licensed by the Rajasthan tourism department, the same qualification their male colleagues hold. You are not trading expertise for comfort.

The day

Pickup is from your hotel, and the car stays with you all day, which matters more than it sounds: Amber Fort is 11 km out of town, Jal Mahal is on the road back, and the old-city sites are clustered but not walkable in May heat.

Amber Fort first, before the crowds thicken. The Sheesh Mahal is the room everyone photographs — thousands of mirror fragments set so a single candle once lit the whole chamber — but the Ganesh Pol gateway and the stepped Maota Lake garden below are the parts people remember.

Jal Mahal, a photo stop. The palace sits in Man Sagar Lake with four of its five storeys underwater; you cannot go in, and nobody pretends otherwise.

Hawa Mahal, the honeycomb facade of 953 windows. It was built so the women of the court could watch street processions unseen — which is a slightly different building once you know that.

City Palace, still partly the residence of the former royal family, and Jantar Mantar next door, an 18th-century observatory of stone instruments that still tell the time to within two seconds.

On entrance fees

Tickets are not in the base rate. Amber Fort, City Palace and Jantar Mantar together run roughly ₹1,500 per foreign adult. Your guide will tell you which are worth the inside visit on the day you are there.
