The range is the point. If you only want Amer Fort, there is a four-hour option for exactly that. If you want a full day, there is one. And you choose between a tuk-tuk, which gets down the old city lanes a car cannot enter, and an air-conditioned car, which between April and September is not a small consideration.
Amer Fort
The reason most people come. Built from 1592 above Maota Lake. The Sheesh Mahal mirror chamber, the painted Ganesh Pol gateway, and the Sukh Niwas cooled by water channels cut through marble. It deserves two to three hours on its own, which is what the four-hour option gives it.
The walled city
City Palace, still partly lived in by the royal family, with the two vast silver urns in the Diwan-i-Khas. Jantar Mantar, nineteen working instruments including a 27-metre sundial. Hawa Mahal, the 953-window facade — and going inside, which most visitors skip.
