Jaipur after dark, and by bicycle if you want
The city is genuinely good at night: the monuments are floodlit, the bazaars run until ten, the temperature has dropped, and the traffic that ruins a daytime ride has thinned.
That last part is what makes the bike option possible — cycling Jaipur at two in the afternoon would be miserable, and at nine in the evening it is a pleasure.
What you see
Hawa Mahal lit from the front, which throws the 953 windows into relief in a way daylight flattens.
The City Palace walls and the Albert Hall Museum, floodlit and surrounded by an improbable number of pigeons — the museum at night is one of the most photographed buildings in the city.
Patrika Gate, nine painted arches at Jawahar Circle, lit and usually empty after dark.
The old-city bazaars in full swing: sweet shops frying, bangle lanes, chai stalls, and the wedding-season crowds from November to February.
And local food — this is the part a night tour does better than a day one. Kachori, mirchi vada, jalebi, lassi in a clay kulhad, and whatever your guide rates.
What you will not see
Monument interiors. They close at sunset, and this is a tour of the city rather than its rooms.
Three options
Three hours by bike with an English-speaking guide; three hours by car; or a guided tour in English, French or German — the last of those needs booking ahead, because licensed guides in those languages are relatively few.
Practical
Hotel pickup. From November to February Jaipur evenings drop sharply after dark — take a jacket, particularly on the bike.
The bike version uses quieter streets rather than main arteries, and helmets are provided. Anyone who has ridden a bicycle in the last decade can manage it.
