Die Yamuna ist inzwischen Teil des Problems

Der Taj wurde aus gutem Grund an einem Flussufer errichtet: das Wasser spiegelte ihn, kühlte die Terrasse, und bildete die vierte Seite der Komposition. Die Yamuna in Agra ist heute stark verschmutzt und führt den größten Teil des Jahres wenig Wasser, deshalb ist die Spiegelung, die Menschen fotografieren, meist das Gartenbecken statt der Fluss.

Das zählt auch statisch. Die Fundamente stehen auf Holzschächten, die nass bleiben sollten, und der sinkende Grundwasserspiegel ist etwas, das Konservatoren beobachten. Luftverschmutzung ist das andere: der Marmor vergilbt, und der Oberste Gerichtshof hat deswegen Industrie rund um die Stadt geschlossen oder umstellen lassen.

Nichts davon verdirbt den Besuch. Es lohnt sich zu wissen, weil es die Einschränkungen erklärt, auf die Sie treffen: die Fahrzeugsperrzone, die Elektrobusse, das Verbot von allem, was brennt.

Der Tag

Privates Fahrzeug von Neu-Delhi nach Agra, am Ufer dieses Flusses, in rund dreieinhalb Stunden.

Taj Mahal. Shah Jahan baute ihn ab 1632 für Mumtaz Mahal, zweiundzwanzig Jahre, zwanzigtausend Arbeiter, Marmor aus Makrana, 400 km entfernt.

Die Kalligrafie, in immer größeren Buchstaben geschnitten, damit sie vom Boden aus gleich hoch erscheint; die Pietra dura mit bis zu sechzig Steinen pro Blüte; die vier Minarette, nach außen geneigt, damit ein Erdbeben sie vom Grabmal weg fallen ließe; und die einzige Asymmetrie, Shah Jahans eigenes Kenotaph, von Aurangzeb außerhalb der Achse hinzugefügt.

Agra Fort, und der Musamman Burj, wo er seine letzten acht Jahre gefangen verbrachte, mit dem Taj in Sicht.

Without doubt one of the favourite Best Day Tours Me and Mrs. HAD We Started the Journey at 3am and Driver Pankaj was on Time to Pick Us Up warmly welcomed us , our names were mentioned on the board and we felt welcomed and with such a friendly atmosphere we had a fantastic start!
