Delhi ist nach Einbruch der Dunkelheit eine andere Stadt.

Der Verkehr dünnt aus, die Temperatur fällt um zehn Grad, und die Bauwerke sind beleuchtet. Für alle, die einen Tag in der Hitze Delhis verbracht haben, ist die Abendtour die angenehmere Fassung derselben Stadt.

Der Akshardham-Tempel wurde 2005 vollendet und ist einer der größten hinduistischen Tempelkomplexe der Welt, aus rosa Sandstein und weißem Marmor gearbeitet, ohne tragenden Stahl irgendwo darin. Über 20.000 Figuren sind in den Stein gearbeitet. Nachts ist der ganze Komplex beleuchtet, und es gibt einen Musikbrunnen.

Das India Gate bei Nacht ist der Grund zu kommen: der 42 Meter hohe Bogen, angestrahlt am Ende der Rajpath, mit Rasenflächen voller Delhi-Familien, die den Abend draußen verbringen. Es ist frei, rund um die Uhr offen, und es ist der Ort, an dem die Stadt sich entspannt.

Das Safdarjung-Grabmal, 1754 für einen mogulischen Premierminister erbaut, ist das letzte der großen Gartengräber Delhis und mit Abstand das stillste. Nach dem Maßstab von Akshardham hierherzukommen ist ein gewollter Kontrast.

Akshardham ist montags geschlossen.

Der Eintritt in den Tempel selbst ist frei; die Ausstellungen und der Musikbrunnen haben eigene Tickets.
Das Safdarjung-Grabmal schließt bei Sonnenuntergang, es wird also vor der Dunkelheit besucht und nicht beleuchtet.
Vier Stunden, und die Zeit verschiebt sich im Jahresverlauf mit dem Sonnenuntergang.
