Von Delhi zum Ganges und zurück vor Mitternacht

Abholung um 4 Uhr morgens, ein Flug um 5:30 Uhr, und man ist um Viertel vor acht am Fluss, die einzige Möglichkeit, Varanasis Sonnenaufgang zu erleben, ohne zwei Reisetage aufzugeben.

Es sind lange vierzehn Stunden, die das Wesentliche abdecken.

7:45 Uhr: das Sonnenaufgangsboot

Der Mittelpunkt des Tages. Ein Ruderboot entlang der Ghats, während sich die gesamte Flussfront der aufgehenden Sonne zuwendet: Tausende Menschen baden, waschen Kleidung, beten, praktizieren Yoga auf den Stufen, Priester unter Palmblattschirmen, Büffel im flachen Wasser.

Vom Wasser aus lesen sich die Ghats wie eine durchgehende Steinfassade, genau so, wie sie zum Betrachten gedacht waren, die Paläste darüber wurden von Maharadschas aus ganz Indien errichtet, die ein Haus an diesem Fluss wollten.

Die Verbrennungsfeuer von Manikarnika brennen seit Jahrhunderten ununterbrochen, denn Hindus glauben, dass der Tod in Varanasi den Kreislauf der Wiedergeburt beendet. Dort keine Fotografie. Das ist absolut, und Ihr Führer wird Ihnen genau sagen, wo die Grenze liegt.

Kashi Vishwanath
