Vom Wasser aus lesen sich die Ghats wie eine durchgehende Steinfassade, so wie sie gesehen werden sollten. Die Paläste darüber wurden von Maharadschas aus ganz Indien errichtet, die ein Haus an diesem Fluss wollten.

Manikarnika liegt an diesem Abschnitt. Seine Verbrennungsfeuer brennen seit Jahrhunderten ununterbrochen, denn Hindus glauben, dass der Tod in Varanasi den Kreislauf der Wiedergeburt beendet, und Leichen kommen aus dem ganzen Land hierher.

Die Ganga Aarti
