Agra tiene tres inscripciones en el Patrimonio Mundial y la mayoría de los visitantes ve una. Este día cubre las tres, y funciona porque están alineadas: el Taj y el fuerte quedan a pocos minutos uno de otro dentro de la ciudad, y Fatehpur Sikri está 40 km al oeste, en la carretera de salida.
Qué ves
El Taj Mahal no necesita defensa. Tu guía te hace pasar la puerta y te lleva por los jardines, la plataforma y el interior del mausoleo, explicando la incrustación de pietra dura y cómo está dimensionada la caligrafía para leerse de forma uniforme desde el suelo.
El fuerte de Agra es el que se infravalora. Es una fortaleza en uso más que un monumento, de arenisca roja en lugar de mármol, y es donde Shah Jahan pasó sus últimos ocho años confinado por su hijo Aurangzeb, con vistas al Yamuna y a la tumba que había mandado construir para su esposa.
Fatehpur Sikri es el más tranquilo y el más extraño. Akbar levantó aquí una capital entera en la década de 1570 y la abandonó en menos de quince años, muy probablemente por el agua. La puerta Buland Darwaza, el Panch Mahal y la tumba de mármol de Salim Chishti siguen en pie, y bastante vacíos.
