La carretera

La Yamuna Expressway es una autopista de peaje de seis carriles abierta en 2012, y es la razón por la que este viaje es siquiera posible en un día; antes de ella, Delhi-Agra eran cinco horas de carretera nacional atravesando pueblos.

Taj Mahal

Shah Jahan lo empezó en 1632, el año siguiente a la muerte de Mumtaz Mahal al dar a luz a su decimocuarto hijo. Veinte mil obreros, veintidós años, y mármol blanco acarreado 400 km desde Makrana, en Rajastán, en carreta de bueyes y elefantes por una rampa construida para ello.

Su guía cubre la caligrafía labrada en letras cada vez más grandes para que desde el suelo cada línea parezca de la misma altura; las incrustaciones de pietra dura, con hasta sesenta piezas de cornalina, jaspe, lapislázuli y jade en una sola flor; los cuatro alminares, inclinados mínimamente hacia fuera para que un terremoto los dejara caer lejos de la tumba; y la ilusión de la puerta Darwaza-i-Rauza, donde el Taj parece encogerse a medida que uno se acerca.

Y la única ruptura deliberada de la simetría: el cenotafio de Shah Jahan, colocado fuera del eje central junto al de su esposa por Aurangzeb.

El Fuerte de Agra

La ciudad de arenisca roja de Akbar, de 1565, con los palacios de mármol de Shah Jahan dentro, y el Musamman Burj, la torre octogonal donde Aurangzeb lo encerró los últimos ocho años de su vida, con el Taj visible a lo largo del agua.

Danish was an amazing tour guide explaining the history behind the Taj amazingly and also allowing me to feel safe as a female solo traveller during the tour I felt 100% comfortable and it was overall a 10/10 experience
