El Triángulo de Oro, más la ciudad más antigua

Delhi, Agra y Jaipur son la India mogol y rajput, fuertes, tumbas, palacios, de tres o cuatro siglos de antigüedad. Varanasi es algo completamente distinto, y añadirla al final de esta ruta es lo que justifica seis días en lugar de tres.

Delhi

Primero la vieja Delhi: la Jama Masjid, el trayecto en rickshaw por Chandni Chowk, y el Fuerte Rojo de 1638. Luego la Nueva Delhi, India Gate, Qutub Minar, la tumba de Humayun, la tumba-jardín de la década de 1560 sobre la que se modeló el Taj, y el Templo del Loto.

Agra

El Taj Mahal, idealmente al amanecer, y el Fuerte de Agra, donde Shah Jahan pasó sus últimos ocho años preso de su hijo, mirando río abajo la tumba que había construido. Fatehpur Sikri suele caer en el camino hacia Jaipur, la capital completa de Akbar, construida en 1571 y abandonada cuando faltó el agua.

Jaipur

El Fuerte Amber sobre el lago Maota, el City Palace, el observatorio de piedra del Jantar Mantar y la fachada del Hawa Mahal con 953 ventanas.

Varanasi

El tren hacia el este, y una India distinta. La ciudad reclama una ocupación continua de tres mil años, y los hindúes creen que morir aquí rompe el ciclo del renacimiento, por eso los ghats de cremación de Manikarnika nunca se apagan.

Un paseo en barca al amanecer por los ghats es lo que hay que hacer, todo el frente del río se vuelve hacia el amanecer y miles de personas se bañan en el río a la vez. Por la tarde, el Ganga Aarti en Dashashwamedh: fuego, campanas y sacerdotes moviéndose al unísono.
