El templo tras el anochecer, y el espectáculo sobre el aljibe escalonado

Akshardham se terminó en 2005 con arenisca rosa de Rajasthan y mármol de Carrara italiano, 234 columnas talladas, 148 elefantes de piedra, todos distintos, nueve cúpulas, y ni una viga de acero ni cemento en el monumento principal. Construido con los métodos tradicionales del shilpa shastra, piedra tallada y ajustada como se construían los templos hace mil años.

Interesen o no los templos modernos, el solo hecho de que esto se intentara en el siglo XXI ya resulta notable.

La visita vespertina

Su guía recorre el complejo antes del espectáculo: el Mandir con su galería tallada, el pedestal Gajendra Pith, tres mil toneladas de piedra que narran historias de elefantes de la mitología india, y el Narayan Sarovar, el estanque rodeado de 108 cabezas de vaca de latón y lleno con agua de 151 ríos y lagos sagrados.

El espectáculo de agua y luz

Sobre el Yagnapurush Kund, el mayor aljibe escalonado de su tipo, construido con 2.870 escalones alrededor de un loto central. Chorros de agua, luz proyectada, fuego y banda sonora narran una historia de la Kena Upanishad, un muchacho que se ofrece al fuego para aprender el origen de la vida.

Dura unos quince minutos tras el anochecer, y esa es la razón para venir de noche y no por la tarde.

Antes de salir

La seguridad es de nivel aeroportuario y la lista de prohibiciones es absoluta: sin teléfonos, sin cámaras, sin bolsos, sin electrónica, sin comida. Hay taquillas gratuitas en la entrada, y la fila para usarlas es la parte más larga de la tarde, deje todo en el coche si puede.

Se exige vestimenta modesta, hombros y rodillas cubiertos para todos. En la entrada se prestan chales.

Cerrado los lunes. Fotografiar en el interior no es posible, mejor saberlo antes que en la puerta.
