El valle del Parvati, a doce horas de Delhi

Kasol se encuentra en el río Parvati, en Himachal Pradesh, a unos 1.600 metros de altitud, y es un tipo de excursión de montaña distinto al de Shimla o Mussoorie, sin arquitectura colonial ni calle comercial, solo un valle fluvial de bosques de deodar, huertos de manzanos y pueblos de piedra y pizarra.

Tiene una larga reputación como destino de mochileros, y el paisaje es la razón de ello.

El trayecto

Un sedán o SUV privado con chófer desde su puerta en Delhi, unas doce horas vía Chandigarh y Bhuntar, con el último tramo subiendo el valle junto al río.

Es largo. La carretera a través del desfiladero del Parvati es la compensación.

Kasol y sus alrededores

El propio pueblo es pequeño y está directamente sobre el agua, con el río lo bastante ruidoso como para oírlo constantemente.

Chalal, a veinte minutos a pie por una pasarela y a través del bosque, es aún más tranquilo.

Manikaran, cuatro kilómetros río abajo, es la razón por la que mucha gente viene: un gurudwara sij y templos hindúes construidos sobre aguas termales naturales tan calientes que se cocina en ellas, el langar del gurudwara hierve su arroz y su dal en el agua termal, y se puede comer. Los peregrinos se bañan en los estanques; el agua está realmente hirviendo en la fuente.

Es uno de los lugares más notables del Himalaya y casi nadie fuera de la India ha oído hablar de él.

Kheerganga, una caminata de un día completo valle arriba hasta una fuente termal a 2.960 metros, si las piernas lo permiten.
