La cocina es la razón para venir.

El Gurudwara Bangla Sahib es el templo sij más conocido de Delhi: una cúpula dorada, un patio de mármol, y el Sarovar, un estanque sagrado que la gente rodea y en el que se baña. Es bonito, y esa no es la parte notable.

La parte notable es el langar. La cocina de aquí cocina y sirve comida gratis a cualquiera que llegue: decenas de miles de comidas cada día, más los fines de semana y en fiestas, a todo el mundo sin importar fe, casta, ingresos o nacionalidad. La llevan casi por completo voluntarios, muchos de ellos visitantes corrientes que se quedaron a ayudar. Te sientas en el suelo en filas y comes lo mismo que los demás.

Puedes entrar en la cocina y verla funcionar: las cubas de dal que hacen falta dos personas para remover, la máquina de rotis que saca miles por hora, y al lado una fila de gente que los estira a mano porque así se ha hecho siempre. Los visitantes pueden echar una mano, y muchos lo hacen.

Tu guía explica los principios que hay detrás: el seva, el servicio sin esperar nada a cambio, y la igualdad deliberada de todos sentados en el mismo suelo.

Lo que conviene saber

Todo el mundo debe cubrirse la cabeza, y los zapatos se quitan en la entrada. En la puerta facilitan pañuelos gratis; el depósito de zapatos también es gratuito.
La entrada es gratuita. La comida también. Los donativos son voluntarios y nunca se piden.
Lávate los pies en la entrada: hay un canal poco profundo por el que pasa todo el mundo.
Se puede fotografiar en el patio, con más restricciones dentro de la sala de oración. Tu guía te dirá dónde.
Echar una mano en la cocina es de verdad bienvenido si te apetece. Dilo y tu guía lo organizará.
