Medio día en la Delhi de Lutyens.

Esta es la visita corta al barrio del siglo XX de la capital, la parte que se construyó cuando los británicos trasladaron su capital desde Calcuta en 1911 y trazaron una ciudad nueva de avenidas anchas y arenisca.

La catedral del Sagrado Corazón se terminó en 1934 en estilo renacentista italiano, toda en blanco y azul y con una nave de bóveda de cañón. Es una catedral en uso, tranquila a mediodía, y casi ningún turista va. Eso es buena parte de su atractivo.

La India Gate es el arco de 42 metros al final de Rajpath, levantado como monumento de guerra a los 84.000 soldados indios que murieron en la Primera Guerra Mundial y en la Tercera Guerra Anglo-Afgana. Hay unos 13.300 nombres grabados. El césped de alrededor es el lugar al que Delhi viene por la tarde, con familias, vendedores de helados y un ambiente que no tiene nada que ver con el turismo.
