Es un tour corto y concreto: caminas de una tumba mogol a un jardín de tumbas del siglo XV, guiado por alguien que piensa en la luz y en la composición y no solo en las fechas.

La tumba de Safdarjung

Construida en 1754 para un primer ministro mogol, en las últimas décadas antes del derrumbe del imperio, y eso es precisamente lo que la hace interesante. El dinero se había agotado. Se retiró mármol de una tumba más antigua para revestirla. Las proporciones son algo más pesadas que las de la tumba de Humayun dos siglos antes, y la cúpula queda un poco alta para su base.

Se la describe a menudo como el último destello de la arquitectura mogol, y fotográficamente es un regalo: una fachada simétrica en rojo y arena, un jardín charbagh vacío, y casi nadie en el encuadre, porque la multitud va a otra parte.

La mejor luz es la primera hora tras la apertura, cuando el sol pasa por encima de la puerta este.

Lodhi Garden

Noventa acres de césped con cinco tumbas repartidas, construidas por las dinastías Sayyid y Lodhi en la década de 1400 y hoy rodeadas de corredores, clases de yoga y loros.
