Dos sitios UNESCO, una mañana

El Fuerte Rojo y la tumba de Humayun están a ocho kilómetros y a cien años de distancia, y verlos uno detrás del otro es la mejor introducción breve al Delhi mogol. Uno es la sede del imperio en su apogeo; la otra es la tumba que fijó el patrón de todo lo que los mogoles construyeron después, incluido el Taj.

El Fuerte Rojo

Shah Jahan trasladó su capital desde Agra y lo mandó construir a partir de 1638: murallas de arenisca roja de dos kilómetros de perímetro, a la orilla de un Yamuna que desde entonces se ha desplazado.

La tumba de Humayun

Encargada en 1565 por Bega Begum para su marido, diseñada por un arquitecto persa, y el primer edificio de India que situó una tumba en el centro de un jardín de cuatro partes dividido por canales de agua. Arenisca roja con incrustaciones de mármol blanco, doble cúpula, y una simetría tan exacta que cuesta un momento darse cuenta.

La UNESCO restauró los jardines y el sistema de agua a lo largo de diez años; vuelven a funcionar.
