El prototipo del Taj Mahal, y dentro puedes oírte pensar.

La tumba de Humayun se terminó en 1572, encargada por Bega Begum, la viuda del emperador, y diseñada por el arquitecto persa Mirak Mirza Ghiyas. Fue el primer mausoleo-jardín de India y el primero en usar el trazado charbagh, el jardín de cuatro partes dividido por canales de agua, con una gran cúpula blanca sobre un zócalo de arenisca roja.

Ochenta años después, los arquitectos de Shah Jahan construyeron el Taj Mahal con la misma plantilla. Ponte aquí primero y el Taj deja de parecer un milagro venido de la nada y empieza a parecer la culminación de algo. Esa es la razón para venir.

Es además un sitio del Patrimonio Mundial de la UNESCO que recibe una fracción de los visitantes del Taj, así que de verdad puedes mirarlo.

Qué ves

El mausoleo principal y su cúpula, el charbagh con sus canales y estanques, y las tumbas menores repartidas por el conjunto que albergan bastante más de un centenar de enterramientos mogoles. Tu guía cubre la influencia persa, el contraste de arenisca roja y mármol blanco que se convirtió en la firma mogol, y el trabajo de restauración que devolvió los jardines.
