Dos mil metros de altitud, a siete horas de Delhi

Mussoorie se encuentra en una cresta del Himalaya de Garhwal sobre Dehradun, y los británicos la llamaban la Reina de las Colinas. Es la verdadera estación de montaña más cercana a Delhi, y la diferencia de temperatura es todo el objetivo: veinte grados más fresco que las llanuras en junio.

Día 1: el trayecto, y el Mall

Recogida a las 5:30, luego de siete a ocho horas vía Dehradun con la última hora en curvas en zigzag.

El Mall Road es la columna vertebral del pueblo, peatonal en algunos tramos, flanqueado por edificios de la era colonial, y donde todos en Mussoorie terminan la tarde. Gun Hill, al que se llega en teleférico, ofrece el valle de Doon a un lado y los picos nevados al otro en un día claro.

Camel's Back Road es un paseo de tres kilómetros alrededor de la cresta sin tráfico alguno, y es lo mejor del pueblo.

Día 2: cataratas y vistas

Las cataratas de Kempty, a 15 km, cayendo unos 40 metros en escalones, animadas, alegres y profundamente indias, con un teleférico que baja hasta las pozas. Vaya temprano si quiere tranquilidad.

Lal Tibba, el punto más alto, donde un telescopio apunta a Badrinath y Kedarnath. El Company Garden, y el lago Mussoorie bajo el pueblo.

Y Landour, el acantonamiento sobre Mussoorie: más tranquilo, más verde, con cuatro iglesias coloniales, una panadería que existe desde la década de 1860, y la librería de Ruskin Bond, donde todavía firma libros la mayoría de los sábados.

Día 3: regreso a Delhi

Con una parada en Rishikesh o Haridwar en el camino de bajada si el tiempo lo permite.

Mussoorie es fría de noviembre a marzo y puede tener nieve en enero. Lleve capas de ropa sea cual sea el tiempo en las llanuras.
