Nueve días, y Jaisalmer es la razón

Jaisalmer está a 560 km al oeste de Jaipur, casi en la frontera con Pakistán. Todo itinerario más corto de Rajastán lo omite, y es el lugar que la gente recuerda más tiempo.

Días 1-2: Delhi

Recepción a la llegada, con una tarde opcional en India Gate y Connaught Place.

Luego la capital: la Jama Masjid y un rickshaw por Chandni Chowk, el Raj Ghat, la tumba de Humayun, la tumba-jardín mogol de la década de 1560 de la que desciende el Taj, y Qutub Minar con su columna de hierro de 1.600 años sin oxidar.

Días 3-4: Agra

El Taj Mahal al amanecer, y el fuerte de Agra con el Musamman Burj, donde Aurangzeb encarceló a su padre ocho años, con el Taj visible a lo largo del río.

Fatehpur Sikri en el camino hacia el oeste.

Días 5-6: Jaipur

El fuerte de Amber sobre el lago Maota, el City Palace, el Jantar Mantar y el Hawa Mahal, con una tarde en los bazares.

Días 7-8: Jodhpur

Mehrangarh se eleva 120 metros directamente desde la roca y nunca fue tomado; el museo en su interior es el mejor gestionado del estado, y las marcas de bala de cañón en la segunda puerta son de un sitio fallido de Jaipur.

Debajo, Jaswant Thada, de mármol lo bastante fino para que pase la luz, y los callejones azules alrededor de la torre del reloj, un lavado de cal y cobre que mantenía alejadas a las termitas.

Día 9: Jaisalmer

Sonar Quila, el fuerte dorado de 1156, es uno de los últimos fuertes vivos del planeta: unas tres mil personas todavía viven dentro de sus murallas, en casas que sus familias conservan desde hace generaciones.

Los templos jainistas en su interior están tallados hasta parecer encaje; Patwon ki Haveli son cinco mansiones de comerciantes una junto a otra. Luego las dunas de Sam para un paseo en camello al atardecer y una noche bajo el cielo.
