Rishikesh en un día, la versión honesta

Son 240 km por trayecto y el día dura unas once horas. Eso es así, y conviene reservar sabiendo que pasarás cinco de esas horas en el coche. Lo que consigues a cambio es el Ganges donde sale del Himalaya, claro, frío y verde, que no se parece en nada al río en Benarés.

Laxman Jhula y Ram Jhula

Dos puentes colgantes peatonales sobre el río, a un par de kilómetros uno del otro, y el centro de gravedad de todo el pueblo. Los cruzas a pie con peregrinos, motos, vacas y monos: no lleves comida en la mano cerca de los monos, están organizados.

Los templos se escalonan en la orilla este, y la vista hacia atrás desde mitad del puente es la foto que hace todo el mundo.

Parmarth Niketan

El ashram más grande de Rishikesh, con más de mil habitaciones, y el ghat donde se celebra el Ganga Aarti cada tarde al atardecer: lámparas, cantos y el río llevándose la llama aguas abajo. Si tu día se alarga lo suficiente para incluirlo, quédate.

El pueblo

Rishikesh ha sido un lugar de meditación durante siglos y un pueblo de escuelas de yoga desde que los Beatles llegaron al ashram de Maharishi Mahesh Yogi en 1968. Ese ashram está hoy abandonado y cubierto de murales, y se puede recorrer por una pequeña cantidad.
