Agra compte trois inscriptions au patrimoine mondial et la plupart des visiteurs n'en voient qu'une. Cette journée couvre les trois, ce qui fonctionne parce qu'ils sont alignés : le Taj et le fort sont à quelques minutes l'un de l'autre en ville, et Fatehpur Sikri se trouve à 40 km à l'ouest, sur la route de sortie.
Ce que vous voyez
Le Taj Mahal n'a pas besoin d'être défendu. Votre guide vous fait passer l'entrée et vous emmène dans les jardins, sur la plateforme et à l'intérieur du mausolée, en expliquant les incrustations de pietra dura et la façon dont la calligraphie est dimensionnée pour se lire de façon régulière depuis le sol.
Le fort d'Agra est celui que l'on sous-estime. C'est une forteresse en activité plutôt qu'un monument, en grès rouge plutôt qu'en marbre, et c'est là que Shah Jahan a passé ses huit dernières années, enfermé par son fils Aurangzeb, avec vue sur la Yamuna et sur le tombeau qu'il avait fait bâtir pour son épouse.
Fatehpur Sikri est le plus calme et le plus étrange. Akbar y a bâti une capitale entière dans les années 1570 et l'a abandonnée en moins de quinze ans, très probablement à cause de l'eau. La porte Buland Darwaza, le Panch Mahal et le tombeau de marbre de Salim Chishti sont toujours debout, et largement vides.
