Mathura et Vrindavan se trouvent à peu près à mi-chemin entre Delhi et Agra, ce qui rend cette combinaison géographiquement logique, contrairement à la plupart des ajouts. Elle vous donne aussi deux types de lieux complètement différents dans la même journée : un monument impérial moghol, et deux villes de pèlerinage hindoues sacrées sans interruption depuis deux mille ans.

Le Taj Mahal avec un guide agréé par le gouvernement, qui couvre les incrustations, la calligraphie et l'histoire de la construction.
Mathura est tenue pour le lieu de naissance de Krishna, et le complexe du temple Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi en marque l'emplacement. C'est un lieu de pèlerinage en activité et non un monument, et cela se sent.
Vrindavan, dix kilomètres plus loin, est l'endroit où Krishna aurait passé son enfance. On y compte plusieurs milliers de temples, du Banke Bihari du XVIe siècle au complexe de marbre de l'ISKCON, et les rues sont pleines de pèlerins, de veuves en blanc, et d'un très grand nombre de singes, voleurs expérimentés de lunettes et de téléphones.

Le Taj est fermé le vendredi. Les temples de Mathura et Vrindavan sont ouverts tous les jours.
Les temples exigent une tenue couvrante, épaules et genoux compris, et l'on se déchausse à l'entrée. Beaucoup n'autorisent ni téléphone ni appareil photo à l'intérieur.
Surveillez vos lunettes et votre téléphone à Vrindavan. Les singes les prennent délibérément et les échangent contre de la nourriture. Ce n'est pas une plaisanterie et cela arrive tous les jours.
Les temples ferment quelques heures au milieu de la journée pour le repos de la divinité. Votre guide organise la visite en conséquence.
Holi à Mathura et Vrindavan est extraordinaire et extrêmement fréquenté. Si vous voyagez en mars, demandez-nous avant de réserver.
