Le Taj le matin, des éléphants sauvés l'après-midi.
Wildlife SOS gère le Elephant Conservation and Care Centre à Mathura, à environ une heure d'Agra. Les éléphants qui y vivent ont été retirés du commerce des promenades touristiques, des cirques et de la mendicité de rue, et la plupart sont arrivés avec des pieds abîmés, une cécité ou les lésions vertébrales que laissent des décennies passées à porter des humains. Ici, personne ne les monte. Vous les regardez marcher, manger et se baigner, et les soigneurs racontent d'où vient chaque animal.
C'est un après-midi vraiment différent de l'habituel arrêt à l'atelier de marbre, et c'est la raison de choisir cette excursion plutôt qu'une autre journée au Taj.

Prise en charge à votre hôtel ou à l'aéroport d'Agra en voiture privée climatisée. Matinée au Taj Mahal avec un guide agréé : l'approche par la grande porte, les jardins, le mausolée et le travail de marqueterie. Puis la route vers le sanctuaire, du temps avec les animaux et les soigneurs, et le retour. Environ huit heures en tout.

Bon à savoir
Le Taj est fermé le vendredi. Le sanctuaire, lui, est ouvert : une version du vendredi fonctionne donc en remplaçant le Taj par le fort d'Agra.
Wildlife SOS demande aux visiteurs de ne pas toucher ni nourrir les animaux en dehors des séances encadrées. C'est un centre de sauvetage, pas un zoo de contact, et les règles existent pour les éléphants.
L'entrée au Taj pour les ressortissants étrangers est de 1 100 ₹ plus 200 ₹ pour la plate-forme du mausolée.
