Deux moitiés très différentes

Les quatre premiers jours, c'est l'Inde moghole et rajpoute : tombeaux, forts, palais. Les deux derniers, c'est le Pendjab sikh, qui donne l'impression d'un autre pays. Ce contraste est la raison de prendre sept jours plutôt que cinq.

Delhi

La Jama Masjid et un tour en cyclo-pousse dans Chandni Chowk, tracée dans les années 1650 avec un canal au milieu qui reflétait le clair de lune. Puis India Gate, le tombeau de Humayun, le tombeau-jardin des années 1560 sur lequel le Taj a été modelé, et Qutub Minar avec le pilier de fer qui n'a pas rouillé en seize siècles.

Agra

Le Taj Mahal, idéalement au lever du soleil, et le fort d'Agra avec la tour où Aurangzeb a enfermé son père à portée de vue du tombeau qu'il avait construit.

Fatehpur Sikri sur la route vers l'ouest, la capitale d'Akbar de 1571, abandonnée quand l'eau a manqué et préservée pour cette raison.

Jaipur

Le fort d'Amber au-dessus du lac Maota, le City Palace, les instruments de pierre du Jantar Mantar et la façade du Hawa Mahal, 953 fenêtres. Une soirée dans les bazars, où travaillent réellement les lapidaires et les fabricants de bracelets de la ville.

Amritsar

Le Temple d'Or est le centre de la foi sikhe, un sanctuaire doré sur une chaussée au milieu d'un bassin, ouvert sur ses quatre côtés pour signifier que chacun peut venir de n'importe quelle direction. Il fonctionne jour et nuit, et sa cuisine nourrit gratuitement entre cinquante et cent mille personnes chaque jour, cuisinées et servies entièrement par des bénévoles. Vous pouvez les rejoindre.

Jallianwala Bagh se trouve à côté : le jardin fermé où les troupes britanniques ont tiré en 1919 sur une foule désarmée et prise au piège. Les traces de balles sont encore dans le mur. Vingt minutes, et l'endroit le plus poignant du Pendjab.

La frontière de Wagah, à 28 km, accueille chaque soir la cérémonie d'abaissement du drapeau, des coups de pied compétitifs entre gardes indiens et pakistanais devant des tribunes pleines des deux côtés.

Au Temple d'Or : tête couverte, chaussures retirées, pieds lavés à l'entrée. Des foulards sont offerts à la porte.
