Description complète

Construit en cinq ans, sans acier

Akshardham a été achevé en 2005 en grès rose du Rajasthan et en marbre de Carrare italien : 234 piliers sculptés, 148 éléphants de pierre tous différents, neuf dômes, et aucun acier structurel ni béton nulle part dans le monument principal.

Il a été construit selon les méthodes traditionnelles du shilpa shastra, pierre taillée, sculptée et ajustée comme les temples indiens se construisaient il y a mille ans, par environ sept mille artisans et un très grand nombre de bénévoles.

Que les temples modernes vous intéressent ou non, le fait que cela ait été tenté au XXIe siècle est remarquable.

Le complexe

Votre guide vous fait le tour avant le spectacle.

Le Mandir avec sa galerie sculptée. Le Gajendra Pith, un socle de trois mille tonnes de pierre racontant des histoires d'éléphants de la mythologie indienne, des éléphants avec des saints, avec des rois, entre eux. Et le Narayan Sarovar, le bassin cerné de 108 têtes de vache en laiton et rempli d'eau provenant de 151 fleuves et lacs sacrés.

Le spectacle d'eau et de lumière

Après la tombée de la nuit, sur le Yagnapurush Kund, le plus grand puits à degrés de son genre, construit en 2 870 marches autour d'un lotus central. Jets d'eau, lumière projetée, feu et musique racontent une histoire de la Kena Upanishad sur un garçon qui entre dans le feu pour apprendre la source de la vie.

Quinze minutes, et c'est la raison de venir le soir.

La sécurité est de niveau aéroport et la liste des interdits est absolue : pas de téléphones, pas d'appareils photo, pas de sacs, pas d'électronique, pas de nourriture. Il y a des vestiaires gratuits à la porte, et la file pour y accéder est la partie la plus longue de la visite, laissez tout dans la voiture si vous le pouvez.

Tenue modeste exigée, épaules et genoux couverts. Des étoles sont prêtées à l'entrée.

Fermé le lundi. La photographie à l'intérieur est impossible, ce qui vaut mieux savoir à l'avance.
