Jaipur en une journée depuis Delhi, ce que la plupart des gens croient impossible.
Il y a environ 270 km dans chaque sens sur une bonne autoroute, donc à peu près cinq heures de route sur la journée. Il reste assez de temps pour les deux bâtiments qui comptent le plus, faits correctement plutôt qu'aperçus.
Le fort d'Amber
Bâti à partir de 1592 au-dessus du lac Maota en grès pâle, un fort à l'extérieur et un palais à l'intérieur. Le Sheesh Mahal, la chambre aux miroirs, est ce dont les gens se souviennent : des milliers de petits miroirs convexes sertis dans les murs et le plafond, si bien qu'une seule flamme se multiplie dans toute la pièce. Votre guide vous montrera aussi la porte Ganesh Pol et le Sukh Niwas, rafraîchi par des canaux d'eau qui le traversent, ingénierie remarquable pour le XVIe siècle au sommet d'une colline.
Le City Palace
Encore partiellement habité par la famille royale. La collection de textiles du Mubarak Mahal, le Diwan-i-Khas avec deux urnes en argent massif qui restent les plus grandes pièces d'argent jamais réalisées, et le Pritam Niwas Chowk avec ses quatre portes peintes consacrées aux saisons.

Partez tôt. Amer ouvre à 8h et dès 10h30 les cours sont pleines ; le Sheesh Mahal est bien meilleur avec moins de monde dedans.
Les promenades à dos d'éléphant à Amer ne sont pas comprises et nous ne les organisons pas. Des jeeps couvrent la même montée.
Huit heures dont cinq de route. Quitter Delhi avant 6h du matin est ce qui fait tenir la journée.
