Delhi au rythme de la marche

C'est la rare visite de Delhi qui se fait vraiment à pied, et cela fonctionne parce que tout tient dans un seul kilomètre de verdure au sud de la ville. Pas de circulation, pas de voiture, quatre heures d'ombre et de ruines.

Deer Park

Un vrai parc urbain avec des cerfs axis dans un enclos, des paons qui vont où ils veulent, des lapins, et assez d'oiseaux pour que les gens viennent ici avec des jumelles. Il fait partie de la ceinture verte plus large de Hauz Khas, et par une matinée d'hiver c'est l'un des endroits les plus calmes d'une ville de vingt millions d'habitants.

Le complexe de Hauz Khas

Le réservoir est venu d'abord. Alauddin Khalji l'a fait creuser vers 1300 pour alimenter la nouvelle ville de Siri : hauz khas signifie simplement bassin royal. Cinquante ans plus tard, Firoz Shah Tughlaq l'a désenvasé et a bâti une madrasa sur deux de ses côtés, l'un des principaux centres de savoir islamique au monde à l'époque, avec son propre tombeau accolé à l'angle.

Ce qui subsiste aujourd'hui est une colonnade de chambres de pierre qui surplombe l'eau, des pavillons au bord, et un tombeau dont le plafond porte encore des traces de ses médaillons de plâtre d'origine. En fin d'après-midi, la lumière descend droit sur toute la longueur du bassin.

Le village de Hauz Khas

Les ruelles derrière les ruines étaient un village agricole jusqu'aux années 1980, quand des créateurs ont commencé à louer les étages bon marché. Aujourd'hui, ce sont des galeries, de petits restaurants, des friperies et des bars empilés sur trois niveaux au bout d'escaliers étroits. Le contraste entre une madrasa du XIVe siècle et une boutique de sacs sérigraphiés de part et d'autre d'un même mur est tout l'intérêt de cette balade.
