Delhi en soirée est un autre endroit que Delhi à deux heures de l'après-midi. La température chute nettement, le trafic s'allège, les monuments sont éclairés, et les pelouses se remplissent de familles. Pour qui a passé une journée dans la chaleur, c'est la version plus agréable des mêmes visites.

Ce que vous voyez

Le Rashtrapati Bhavan, la résidence du président, en tête de Rajpath. Il compte 340 pièces et était la pièce maîtresse de Lutyens pour la nouvelle capitale ; vous le voyez depuis l'esplanade avec les bâtiments du Secrétariat de part et d'autre de l'approche.

L'India Gate, le mémorial de guerre de 42 mètres qui porte environ 13 300 noms, illuminé au bout de l'avenue. C'est là que Delhi vient vraiment le soir, et l'atmosphère n'a rien à voir avec du tourisme.

Le tombeau de Safdarjung, bâti en 1754 et dernier des grands tombeaux-jardins de la ville, calme et presque toujours vide.

Le Qutub Minar, minaret de 72 mètres commencé en 1192, éclairé à la nuit tombée.

Le Qutub Minar et le tombeau de Safdarjung ferment au coucher du soleil : les jours courts d'hiver, ils se voient donc dans la dernière lumière plutôt qu'illuminés.
L'India Gate est gratuit et ouvert toute la nuit.
Trois heures trente, ce qui s'insère bien après une journée passée ailleurs.
