From Delhi: Skip-the-line Taj Mahal Tour with Fatehpur Sikri in Agra

Three UNESCO sites in thirteen hours

This is the full Agra circuit done in a single day from Delhi. It is long — a 6 am pickup and a late return — and it is the most you can honestly fit between one sunrise and one night.

06:00 — Delhi

Pickup from your hotel or the airport in Delhi, Noida or Gurugram, then the Yamuna Expressway. Three to four hours with a stop.

09:30 — Taj Mahal

Your guide meets you in Agra and skip-the-line entry puts you in the shorter queue. Security still applies to everyone: no tripods, no drones, no food, no large bags.

Shah Jahan began it in 1632 for Mumtaz Mahal. Twenty-two years, twenty thousand workers, marble hauled 300 km from Makrana. What a guide gives you here is the detail — calligraphy cut larger as it rises so it reads evenly from below, pietra dura flowers of dozens of inlaid stones, minarets tilted outward so an earthquake would drop them clear of the tomb, and the one deliberate asymmetry in the whole building.

Agra Fort

Akbar's fort of 1565, red sandstone outside and Shah Jahan's marble within. The Musamman Burj is the tower where Aurangzeb held his father prisoner for eight years, with the Taj in view along the river.

Fatehpur Sikri

Forty kilometres west, and the reason to take the thirteen-hour version rather than the eleven-hour one.

Akbar built this capital in 1571 and abandoned it fourteen years later when the water failed — which is why it stands complete. The Buland Darwaza, 54 metres of victory gate; the Panch Mahal, five open storeys stepping back like a wedding cake; the Diwan-i-Khas with its single carved central pillar; and the marble dargah of Salim Chishti, where people still tie threads to the jali screens.
