The sunrise Taj is the version worth the alarm: first light on the marble, thin crowds, and air that has not yet turned hot. This tour adds the two buildings that usually get cut when a day runs short.
What you see
Taj Mahal at sunrise. You leave Delhi in the dark to be at the gate as it opens. The marble reads grey, then pink, then white as the sun comes up behind it, and the first hour is the emptiest the complex gets.
Itimad-ud-Daulah, the Baby Taj, built by Nur Jahan for her father two decades before the Taj. It is the first Mughal building faced entirely in white marble with pietra dura inlay, and it is where the techniques the Taj made famous were worked out. Small, shaded, and almost empty.
Agra Fort, red sandstone and marble, with the Musamman Burj looking across the Yamuna to the Taj, which is where Shah Jahan ended up.
