Pickup is from anywhere in the National Capital Region, which matters if you are staying out in Gurugram or Noida rather than central Delhi and would otherwise spend the first hour just getting to the meeting point. Airport, hotel or railway station, the car comes to you.
The day
Private air-conditioned car down the Yamuna Expressway, about three hours. At the Taj Mahal your government-approved guide takes you through the gate, the gardens, the platform and the interior, and explains the things that are easy to miss: the calligraphy that gets larger as it rises so it reads evenly from below, the inlay work in semi-precious stone, the deliberate asymmetry of Shah Jahan's own cenotaph.
Agra Fort follows, where the same emperor spent his final years imprisoned by his son with a clear view across the river to the Taj. Lunch is included. Then the drive back, dropped where you started.
