Agra holds three UNESCO listings and this covers all of them. It works because they line up: the Taj and the Fort are minutes apart in the city, and Fatehpur Sikri sits 40 km west on the road out, so the route runs in one direction rather than doubling back.
What you see
The Taj Mahal, with enough time to do it properly, not as a photograph stop. Your guide covers the inlay, the calligraphy and the construction.
Agra Fort, red sandstone outside with marble palaces within, and the Musamman Burj where Shah Jahan was held by his son Aurangzeb, looking across the river at his wife's tomb.
Fatehpur Sikri, Akbar's capital, built in the 1570s and abandoned within about fifteen years when the water gave out. The Buland Darwaza, the Panch Mahal and the marble dargah of Salim Chishti all survive, and there is rarely a crowd.

The Taj is closed on Fridays. The Fort and Fatehpur Sikri stay open, so a Friday version still gives you two of the three.
