How the day runs
Hotel pickup in Delhi in a private car. The Yamuna Expressway takes about three hours each way.
At the Taj Mahal your professional guide takes you through the Great Gate approach, the charbagh gardens, the marble platform and the mausoleum interior. Expect the pietra dura inlay explained properly — where the jasper, jade, turquoise and lapis came from — along with the calligraphy scaled to read evenly from below, and the minarets built with a deliberate outward lean.
Agra Fort after, with the Diwan-i-Am, the Jahangir Palace and the Musamman Burj where Shah Jahan was held by his son with the Taj in view across the Yamuna.
