From Delhi: Taj Mahal Tour with traditional Dress & Photos in Agra

Dressed for the building

The Taj photographs better with colour in front of it. That is a practical fact about a white marble monument, and it is the whole idea behind this tour: you wear a saree, lehenga, kurta or sherwani, and a professional photographer shoots you at the sites while a licensed guide handles the history.

Outfits are provided and fitted on the day; you do not need to bring anything.

The photo session

The standard frames, done properly: the Diana bench on the central axis, the reflection in the long water channel, silhouettes against the light, and the framed shots through the red sandstone arches of the Darwaza-i-Rauza where the warm stone sets off the marble.

The photographer directs — which is the reason these come out better than the pictures you take of each other. Edited images are sent afterwards.

The Taj itself

Shah Jahan began it in 1632, the year after Mumtaz Mahal died bearing their fourteenth child. Twenty thousand workers, twenty-two years, marble carted 300 km from Makrana.

Your guide will point out the calligraphy cut in increasing sizes so it reads uniformly from the ground, the pietra dura flowers of dozens of inlaid stones, and the minarets tilted outward so an earthquake would drop them away from the tomb.

Agra Fort

Then Akbar's red sandstone fort of 1565, and the Musamman Burj, where Aurangzeb imprisoned his father with the Taj in sight down the river.

Practical

A long day from Delhi — around three and a half hours each way on the Yamuna Expressway.

The Taj is closed on Fridays.

No tripods and no drones inside; security is strict and everything is shot handheld. Changing facilities are arranged near the site rather than at the monument itself.
