Four days, three nights, everything arranged

Hotels, transport, guides and transfers in one booking, with the arrival day used rather than lost.

Day 1: Delhi

Met at the airport or railway station and transferred to your hotel, with breakfast and time to freshen up.

Then India Gate on Rajpath, the drive past Rashtrapati Bhavan — 340 rooms under a dome Lutyens borrowed from a Buddhist stupa — and Qutub Minar or Humayun's Tomb depending on the hour.

Old Delhi if the day holds: Jama Masjid, and Chandni Chowk from a cycle rickshaw, still organised trade by trade three hundred and seventy years after Jahanara laid it out.

Day 2: Delhi to Agra

The Yamuna Expressway, about three and a half hours.

Agra Fort on arrival — Akbar's red sandstone city of 1565 with Shah Jahan's marble palaces inside, and the Musamman Burj, the tower where Aurangzeb imprisoned him for the last eight years of his life.

Mehtab Bagh across the river at sunset if the light holds, for the reflection view of the Taj.

Day 3: Agra to Jaipur

The Taj Mahal at sunrise, and then Fatehpur Sikri on the road west: the 54-metre Buland Darwaza, the Panch Mahal, and the marble dargah of Salim Chishti where people still tie threads to the screens.

Day 4: Jaipur, then Delhi

Amber Fort early, then the City Palace, Jantar Mantar and the Hawa Mahal, and the drive back.
