Six days, counting the day you land

Worth reading the day breakdown before comparing prices: this itinerary counts arrival as day one, which means five working days of sightseeing rather than six. That is normal for Indian tour pricing and it is the sort of thing nobody mentions until you are on the ground.

Day 1: arrival

Met at the airport or station, transferred to your hotel, and an afternoon of India Gate, Rashtrapati Bhavan and Parliament House from the road, then Connaught Place in the evening.

Day 2: Delhi

Qutub Minar, the 12th-century victory tower and the rustless iron pillar. Humayun's Tomb, the 1560s garden tomb the Taj descends from. Lotus Temple — closed Mondays.

And Old Delhi: Jama Masjid and Chandni Chowk, best by cycle rickshaw.

Day 3: Delhi to Agra

The Yamuna Expressway, then Agra Fort in the afternoon and Mehtab Bagh for the sunset reflection view across the river if the light holds.

Day 4: Agra to Jaipur

The Taj Mahal at sunrise — the marble goes grey, then pink, then white, and the crowd at that hour is a fifth of what it will be by ten.

Then west to Fatehpur Sikri: the Buland Darwaza, the Panch Mahal, the Diwan-i-Khas with its single carved pillar, and the marble dargah of Salim Chishti.

Day 5: Jaipur

Amber Fort early, then the City Palace, Jantar Mantar and the Hawa Mahal. Evening in Johari and Tripolia bazaars.

Day 6: back to Delhi

With a stop if the timing allows.
