Our tour guide, Abdul Amir was excellent. He was knowledgeable in the ins and outs of of the Taj Mahal both from a history standpoint but also the logistics of the site. He also made sure to tailor the tour for us and it wasn’t rushed.

The private day tour from Delhi to see the Taj Mahal and Agra was absolutley wonderful. The 5 star lunch was a real highlight, we dined at a beautiful hotel restaurant with views of the Taj from the rooftop terrace. Our guide was incredibly knowledgable about Mughal history and Shah Jahan's story. The private car was a clean Toyota Innova with cold water bottles. We visited both the Taj Mahal and Agra Fort and had time for souvenir shopping too. A premium experience worth every penny.

Booked this private Agra tour specifically because of the included 5 star lunch and it did not disappoint. The lunch was at the Oberoi where we had a beautiful buffet with Mughal inspired dishes. The Taj Mahal itself was mesmerizing, our guide spent nearly 2 hours explaining every architectural detail and the love story behind it. Agra Fort was equally impressive with its mix of red sandstone and white marble. The private car made the 3.5 hour drive comfortable. Definitely the most luxurious way to see the Taj.

Really nice private tour to Agra with 5 star lunch included. The Taj Mahal was breathtaking and our guide was very knowledgable. The lunch at the luxury hotel was delicious with many options. The car was comfortable for the highway drive. My only minor complaint is that we left the hotel at 6am and did not return until 9pm which made for a very long day. But the experience was definately worth the early start and late finish. Would reccomend to anyone wanting a premium Agra experience.

This was hands down the best way to visit the Taj Mahal from Delhi. The private car was spacious and the driver was safe and professional. At the Taj Mahal our guide pointed out details I would have never noticed, like how the minarets lean slightly outward to protect the main dome in case of an earthquake. The 5 star lunch was exceptional with fine Indian cuisine. We finished at Agra Fort where Shah Jahan was imprisoned by his son and could only see the Taj from a distance, what a story. Reccomend this wholeheartedly.

My husband and I booked this private Taj Mahal tour with the 5 star lunch for our anniversary and it was perfect. Everything felt curated and premium. The guide was waiting for us at the Taj entrance with skip the line tickets. The monument is even more beautiful up close, the marble inlay work is extraordinary. Lunch at the 5 star hotel was romantic and delicious. The private car had leather seats, AC and a very smooth ride. If you want to see the Taj in style, this is the tour to book.

Frequently Asked Questions

The Delhi to Agra private tour is a full-day excursion from Delhi covering the complete Agra experience: hotel pickup in Delhi at approximately 5:30–6:00 AM, 3–3.5 hour drive to Agra via the Yamuna Expressway, Taj Mahal with licensed guide (2–2.5 hours, all tickets included), Agra Fort with guide (1.5 hours, tickets included), sit-down lunch at a quality Agra restaurant, and return drive to Delhi arriving approximately 6:00–7:00 PM. The tour is 100% private — dedicated vehicle and guide for your group only, no shared participants, complete schedule flexibility. Mehtab Bagh or Itmad-ud-Daula can be added for visitors interested in more Agra monuments.
Yes — solo travellers can book the Delhi-Agra private tour. The private vehicle and guide are exclusively yours for the day regardless of group size. Per-person pricing for a solo traveller is higher than for groups (costs divided by one person), but the experience — one-on-one guide attention, flexible timing, complete personal schedule — is significantly superior to a shared group tour. If cost is the primary concern, enquire about our shared group tour option from Delhi to Agra, which allows participation at a significantly lower per-person rate by sharing costs with other travellers.
5:30–6:00 AM departure from Delhi is strongly recommended. This arrival time in Agra (approximately 9:00 AM) catches the Taj Mahal before the main tourist crowds arrive and in the best morning light. Departing later than 7 AM pushes Taj Mahal arrival past 10–10:30 AM — noticeably more crowded and hotter. For visitors who want to combine the Agra private tour with a Delhi half-day (visiting Old Delhi in the late afternoon on the return), a 6:30 AM departure is possible but the Taj Mahal experience is slightly less optimal. Earliest possible departure for a sunrise Taj Mahal experience from Delhi: 4:00–4:30 AM.
Yes — the Taj Mahal inner mausoleum entry (₹200 for foreign nationals, in addition to the ₹1,300 main complex entry) is included in the tour price. The inner chamber contains the marble cenotaphs of Mumtaz Mahal and Shah Jahan, surrounded by an ornate carved marble jali screen with intricate Pietra Dura inlay work. Entry to the inner chamber is managed by ASI (Archaeological Survey of India) staff and limited to groups of approximately 20 at a time. Your guide ensures your group enters in a timely batch rather than waiting in the queue. Photography inside the inner chamber is restricted (no flash).
Yes — the tour can be arranged as a one-way trip from Delhi to Agra (dropping you at your Agra hotel) or from Agra to Delhi (collecting you from your Agra hotel and returning to Delhi). This is useful for travellers whose itinerary has them arriving in India to Delhi and spending the first night in Delhi before proceeding to Agra, or for travellers on the Golden Triangle circuit who are finishing their circuit in Delhi. One-way pricing is lower than round-trip as it requires only one leg of vehicle use. Confirm whether you need a one-way or round-trip arrangement when booking.
The Taj Mahal is closed every Friday (for Islamic prayers) and occasionally for government events or VIP visits (rare, with little public notice). If you book on a Friday, your tour guide will redirect the day to Agra Fort, Mehtab Bagh, Itmad-ud-Daula, Fatehpur Sikri, and Sikandra — a full Agra day without the Taj Mahal but still extraordinarily rich in content. Confirm your visit date is not a Friday before booking. In the extremely rare case of a last-minute government closure, we reschedule to the next available date or provide a full refund for the missed monument.
Yes — all Delhi-Agra private tours use the Yamuna Expressway (NH19) — India's most modern expressway connecting the Delhi NCR with Agra. The expressway is 165 km, 6-lane, divided, with no intersections or traffic signals, modern crash barriers, and regular police patrols. Travel time is 3–3.5 hours depending on entry/exit traffic near Delhi and Agra. Toll charges (approximately ₹415 each way) are included in the tour price. The expressway is significantly faster and smoother than the older NH2 (through Mathura), which adds 45+ minutes and considerably more stress.
Yes — the Delhi-Agra private tour is the first leg of the 3-day Golden Triangle tour. From Agra, the Golden Triangle continues to Jaipur (5-hour drive, passing through Fatehpur Sikri), making a logical extension that adds just 2 more days for a comprehensive three-city experience. Most travellers who do the Delhi-Agra private tour wish they had extended to Jaipur — Rajasthan's Pink City adds a completely different cultural and architectural dimension (Rajput vs. Mughal history) to the circuit. Enquire about extending your Agra day trip to the full Golden Triangle when booking.
Hotel-to-hotel pickup and drop-off from anywhere in Delhi is included — Connaught Place area, South Delhi, Aerocity, Noida, or Gurgaon. Simply provide your hotel name and address when booking. For hotels near the Yamuna Expressway entry (Noida, Greater Noida) the total journey time to Agra may be slightly shorter. For hotels in north Delhi (Karol Bagh, Old Delhi area), allow an extra 20–30 minutes for the drive south to the expressway. The driver confirms exact pickup time the evening before based on your hotel's precise location.
The standard Delhi-Agra private tour includes lunch at a quality 4-star restaurant in Agra. For travellers who prefer a 5-star dining upgrade, the following premium restaurants are available at a supplement: (1) Oberoi Amarvilas — Bellevue Restaurant — fine dining with direct Taj Mahal views through floor-to-ceiling windows; North Indian and continental cuisine; the most exclusive lunch setting in Agra and arguably in India; expect to spend ₹3,000–5,000 per person. (2) ITC Mughal — Peshawri Restaurant — specialising in North-West Frontier cuisine (tandoor-grilled meats, dal Peshawri, naan) in an intimate rustic setting; a sister restaurant of the legendary Bukhara in Delhi. (3) ITC Mughal — Taj Bano Restaurant — Mughlai royal cuisine in a garden courtyard with Mughal architectural elements; dishes inspired by the imperial kitchen recipes of the Mughal emperors. (4) Trident Agra — The Restaurant — contemporary Indian and international menu with garden views; a lighter, more modern alternative. Your guide recommends the best option based on your cuisine preference and schedule. A 5-star lunch adds approximately 1–1.5 hours to the Agra visit (vs. 45 minutes at the standard restaurant) but the experience is memorable. For more on the Agra experience, see our Taj Mahal sunrise tour page.
Yes, the Taj Mahal is closed every Friday for religious reasons. Please ensure your tour date for the Taj Mahal does not fall on a Friday.
Yes, foreign tourists must show their original passport or a high-quality digital photo at the entrance gates for security identification and monument entry.
Sunrise is the best time to visit the Taj Mahal. The gates open at 6:00 AM and the soft morning light creates the most stunning views. Arrive by 5:30 AM to beat the crowds and get the best photography conditions.
Yes, Delhi is generally safe for tourists, especially in popular tourist areas like Connaught Place, Chandni Chowk, and around major monuments. Booking a licensed local guide through AsiaByLocals adds an extra layer of safety and local knowledge.
The Delhi Metro is the fastest and most affordable way to travel between attractions. For tour experiences, our guides arrange private air-conditioned vehicles so you can cover Old Delhi and New Delhi comfortably in one day.
For popular sites like Qutub Minar, Humayun's Tomb, and Red Fort, advance tickets are recommended to skip long queues. When you book a guided tour through AsiaByLocals, entry tickets and skip-the-line access are typically included.
