Delhi, Agra, Jaipur in three days.
The standard circuit, and it is standard for a reason: the three cities tell one continuous story. A Mughal capital, the tomb that nearly emptied its treasury, and the Rajput city that dealt with both.
Day one — Delhi
Qutub Minar, begun in 1192, with the iron pillar that has not rusted in sixteen centuries. Humayun's Tomb, the garden tomb that was the direct model for the Taj. Old Delhi for the Red Fort, Jama Masjid and Chandni Chowk. Then India Gate and the wide avenues of the colonial city. Drive to Agra in the evening.
Day two — Agra
Taj Mahal at sunrise if you take the advice. Agra Fort, with the Musamman Burj where Shah Jahan was held in sight of the tomb he built. Then west to Fatehpur Sikri, Akbar's abandoned sandstone capital, on the road to Rajasthan.
Day three — Jaipur
Amer Fort and its Sheesh Mahal, City Palace, Jantar Mantar, Hawa Mahal, and the bazaars if there is time. Back to Delhi.
