The Golden Triangle with enough time in it.
The circuit is Delhi, Agra, Jaipur and back, and it is popular because the three cities genuinely do tell one story: a Mughal capital, the tomb that emptied a treasury, and the Rajput city that negotiated with both. Done in a day it is a blur. Three days is the shortest version that lets you stop.
Roughly how it runs
Delhi for the capital's own layers: Qutub Minar, Humayun's Tomb, the Red Fort and Jama Masjid, India Gate and the colonial avenues. Then the drive to Agra on the Yamuna Expressway.
Agra for the Taj Mahal, ideally at sunrise, and Agra Fort, where Shah Jahan was confined in sight of it. Fatehpur Sikri sits on the road west out of Agra, so it fits naturally on the way to Rajasthan rather than as a detour.
Jaipur for Amer Fort and the Sheesh Mahal, City Palace, Jantar Mantar and Hawa Mahal, with the bazaars if there is appetite left. Then back to Delhi.
