You know which hotel before you book

The unusual thing here is that the properties are named rather than described as "three-star or similar" — you can look them up before committing, which on a six-day trip is worth something.

Day 1: arrival in Delhi

Airport pickup and transfer, and the rest of the day to recover from the flight.

Day 2: Delhi

India Gate and the ceremonial axis of Rajpath. Qutub Minar, begun 1193, with the iron pillar that has not rusted in sixteen centuries. Humayun's Tomb, the 1560s Mughal garden tomb that the Taj was modelled on — same charbagh plan, same double dome, sixty years earlier and far emptier.

Old Delhi as the day goes on: Jama Masjid and the rickshaw run through Chandni Chowk, where the trades still sit where Shah Jahan's plan put them — silver in Dariba Kalan, spices in Khari Baoli, wedding trim in Kinari Bazaar.

Days 3–4: Agra

The Taj Mahal, best at sunrise. Agra Fort with Akbar's red sandstone and Shah Jahan's marble, and the tower where he spent his last eight years imprisoned by his own son.

With two days here there is room for the Baby Taj across the river — the 1620s marble tomb that introduced pietra dura to India and made the Taj possible — and Mehtab Bagh for the reflection at sunset.

Days 5–6: Jaipur

Fatehpur Sikri on the drive. Then Amber Fort, the City Palace, Jantar Mantar and the Hawa Mahal, with an evening in the bazaars before the return to Delhi.

Private vehicle with driver and guide; or the package with three-star hotels and daily breakfast included.

Practical

The Taj is closed on Fridays. Entrance fees are separate — roughly ₹2,600 a head across the three cities for a foreign adult.
