The journey to the heart of Old Delhi takes about 30 to 35 minutes by metro and local transport, giving you a chance to witness the vibrant cityscape as it transitions from modern to historic. If you prefer, airport or hotel pickups can be arranged for an additional charge. We recommend wearing comfortable shoes and modest clothing, as you will be exploring bustling streets and religious landmarks. Keep your camera ready to capture the rich colors and lively scenes, but also be respectful when photographing locals.
Exploring Jama Masjid: India’s Largest Mosque
Your first major stop is the magnificent Jama Masjid, the largest mosque in India and a true architectural marvel built in the 17th century by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan. You will spend around 25 to 30 minutes here, soaking in the grandeur of its vast courtyard, intricate red sandstone and marble structures, and the spiritual ambiance that draws worshippers and tourists alike. As you wander through this sacred site, your guide will share fascinating stories about its history, the Mughal era, and the cultural significance of the mosque in Delhi’s diverse religious fabric.
Culinary Delights at Paratha Wali Gali and Nav Garh
Next, you'll stroll through the vibrant lanes leading to Paratha Wali Gali, a street famous for its delicious parathas - a traditional Indian flatbread stuffed with various fillings. Here, you will sample an array of mouthwatering vegetarian parathas, each with distinct spices and textures, reflecting the rich culinary heritage of Old Delhi. After indulging in these iconic treats, your tour continues to the nearby Nav Garh buildings, home to royal jewelers and craftsmen. Spend about 30 minutes exploring this fascinating area, where you can admire exquisite traditional jewelry and learn about the artistry behind these timeless creations.
Authentic Street Food and Spice Market Experience
Throughout the tour, you will enjoy multiple tastings of authentic vegetarian local street foods, carefully curated to give you a genuine taste of Delhi’s rich flavors. All food tastings are included, ensuring a hassle-free and immersive experience. For those interested in the sensory world of Indian spices, an optional stop at Asia’s largest spice market is available. Here, you can witness lively trade demonstrations, inhale intoxicating aromas, and even purchase fresh spices to take home as souvenirs. This part of the walk perfectly blends culture, spirituality, and culinary adventure, with hidden lanes revealing stories and flavors that only locals know.
Return and Insider Tips for a Smooth Experience

Our guide met us right at the metro and from the first lane we were hooked. The jalebi and dahi bhalla stops were incredible, but honestly the rickshaw ride through those wire-tangled alleys was the moment my kids won't stop talking about. Khari Baoli left us sneezing from all the chilli in the air and grinning the whole time. Worth every penny of the fifty-five dollars.
I did the hotel pickup option and it was money well spent, no fighting the metro in the morning. What impressed me was how our guide knew every vendor by name and picked stalls where the food was cooked fresh in front of us. The Jain temple with its little bird hospital was completely unexpected and genuinely moving. A proper insider's Old Delhi.
As a vegetarian I sometimes worry on food tours but here I was spoiled for choice. Kachori, parathas, the creamiest lassi and a jalebi so hot it burned my fingers. Our guide was patient with my spice tolerance and never rushed us. Gurdwara Sis Ganj was a peaceful contrast to the chaos outside. Beautiful morning.
Fantastic tour and a brilliant guide, but I'll be honest, the crowds in Chandni Chowk are relentless and by late morning the heat had me flagging. Go early. The food was superb and the rickshaw ride was a real highlight weaving through gaps I'd never have attempted on foot. Just come prepared for sensory overload and wear proper shoes.
Four hours flew by. I loved that this wasn't a tick-box monument tour but a real walk through daily life. The spice market was overwhelming in the best way and our guide explained the history behind each temple beautifully. We covered head and shoes off at the gurdwara, which felt respectful. Easily the most authentic thing we did in Delhi.
Booked this on a cool February morning and the timing was perfect. Our guide steered us away from the touristy stalls to little hole-in-the-wall places locals actually queue at. The chaat was a revelation. Entry tickets and food were all sorted so we never once reached for our wallets. Genuinely one of the best guided experiences of our trip.
Really enjoyable and our guide was warm and knowledgeable. My only note is that a couple of the food stops felt a touch rushed because the lanes were so packed we kept having to move on. Still, the flavours were unforgettable and the Gauri Shankar Temple visit was lovely. The rickshaw ride alone is worth booking for. Bring hand sanitiser and an appetite.
An absolute feast for the senses. The narrow bazaars, the smell of frying samosas, temple bells and the honking chaos all rolled into one morning. Our guide balanced the food, history and the three religious sites perfectly, and the pickup from our hotel made it effortless. If you only do one thing in Old Delhi, make it this. We left completely full and completely charmed.
