There are exactly three sensible ways to travel the 230 km from Delhi to Agra, and after running this route professionally for years, the honest summary is: the Gatimaan Express train is the best value, the private car is the best experience, and the bus is what you take when the first two are sold out.

Your choice really depends on two questions: do you want a sunrise Taj Mahal visit (only the car makes that possible), and are you traveling solo/as a couple (train wins) or as a family/group (car wins on per-head cost and comfort). Two details that decide it for most travelers: the Gatimaan's return train leaves Agra at 5:35 PM, giving you a comfortable ~7.5 hours in the city — still more monument time than a same-day car round trip, but not an unlimited evening.
